Create fun and unique no-sew hats and masks - no art degree required! Children with medically fragile conditions and developmental disabilities will use these costumes during Only Make Believe interactive theatre performances and keep them afterwards. This fosters confidence during a difficult time in their life and allows them to use their imagination and return to the world of “Make Believe“, even after the show has ended.

EACH COSTUME CREATED = 1 CHILD REACHED

OMB is dedicated to the principle that engaging a child’s imagination is a vital part of learning and developing life skills. Our programming empowers children to explore their imagination, engage in critical thinking, and discover the fun-filled experience of expressing emotions through interactive theatre.

Elaine, a resilient woman from Charlotte, North Carolina, is in urgent need of help. Despite being wheelchair-bound due to multiple severe health conditions, including Chiari Malformation, liver disease, fibromyalgia, and osteoarthritis, she continues to stay active in her church and ministry. However, her once-beautiful flower beds and pathways have become severely overgrown, leaving her overwhelmed.

Elaine’s connection to the land runs deep. Before her disabilities took hold, she had a background in landscaping and even started a business selling flowers. Now, as she faces her daily challenges, she watches helplessly as her beloved garden becomes unmanageable. Elaine found our charitable organization through a voice Siri search, and we are now reaching out to individuals, groups, and organizations to come together and assist her in restoring her garden.

This is an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the life of someone who has given so much to her community. Let’s come together to help Elaine reclaim the beauty of her garden and bring some peace to her life.

Property Details:

Azalea hedges: about 5 1/2 feet tall, need to be cut down to stumps
Backyard grass: fenced in, about 4 inches (a few weeks ago) so it's much taller by now..
Front yard: mostly overgrown flower beds, regularly takes about 15-20 minutes to mow due to pathways
5-foot tree stump in the front: needs to be chainsawed down
Equipment recommendations: Lawn Mower, Pruning & / or Pole Saw, Chain Saw, Hedge Trimmer (Extended?), Leaf Blower & Bags

Homeowner mentioned she has a leaf blower, a weed eater, an electric hedge clipper, and a battery power lawn mower - all battery powered interchangeable with Ryobi that she can provide if you dont have your own equipment

We have projects for small teams (3-5 volunteers) to support one local senior. If you have a larger team of 10, the team could support 2-3 seniors and so on.

Team volunteering is an extended team building experience where everyone shares in helping the same person, but in different ways and on different dates.

Your team will share the responsibility of meeting the requested needs (tasks) of this Senior in a 3-6 month or longer timeframe. We meet with your team to ensure we find a senior in need of the tasks you would be willing to do as a group. We can facilitate a group engagement at the begining and end of your term (if desired by your team).

Various tasks requested: rides, running errands, helping at home, taking out the garbage, shopping, helping with technology support, fix-its & social visits from a live list of options (dated and flexible) with Northwest Neighbors Network.

Reach danie@northwestneighborsnetwork.org or call 415-724-8283 to learn more about Team Volunteering.
