Volunteer needs: assist us in preparing event packets for the families for special preview (June 1); assist and prepare event packets for sponsors, donors and attendees for opening night (June 2); sort and prepare auction items which will help us to raise funds

Event description/purpose: The LOOK! Forward Photography Exhibit, hosted by Family Connection of South Carolina, returns this summer and will be on display at the newly renovated Richland Library, 1431 Assembly Street in downtown Columbia, from June 1 through August 17.
This exhibit showcases the beauty and strength of children, teens and young adults who are living rich, full lives despite their disability or special healthcare need. Last year, thanks to the generosity of 27 Midlands area photographers, the exhibit featured 50 children, teens and adults – a value of more than $40,000 in services. Family Connection developed the LOOK! project in response to often heard comments from the families we serve. “I wish that the world would really see my child and not just their disability!”

How will this project make an impact? Richland Library’s downtown location has more than 7,000 visitors a day, seven days a week. That means more than 546,000 people will see the exhibit over the course of its 78-day run. We are also working to have the exhibit travel to at least two other areas of the state.

The goal of this event is to raise money for the Children's Advocacy Alliance so that we can further our mission of providing hope, healing and a voice for justice for abused and neglected children in our community. Additional funding will allow us to recruit and train more volunteer advocates for our CASA program to work with children in the foster care system. It will allow our child advocacy center to provide more children with forensic interviews, family advocacy, mental health services and sexual assault exams.

Our goal is to provide them with the traditional life milestone they would unfortunately miss out on due to hospitalizations, surgeries, medical treatments or other complications from illness.

The teens will be pampered prior to Prom and receive professional beauty/makeup applications and also have the opportunity to choose their special outfits. Prom Night will include lots of food, a DJ, photo booth and swag bags.
