Come join a very special program, where children and adults with disabilities engage with dedicated volunteers and gentle horses to enjoy a day of therapy and fun. Volunteering at Halleck Creek Ranch will give you a great sense of achievement and fulfillment, as you help the riders reach their goals and improve their lives. Volunteers are crucial in keeping the program tuition affordable to all. In addition to giving back to your community, volunteers learn a great deal about horsemanship, leadership and about the issues facing people with disabilities.
Program Volunteering includes grooming and tacking-up horses for the program, leading horses for riders, side walking riders, and other jobs related to assisting with the riding program. All Program Volunteers need to attend an orientation and training, complete all enrollment forms, and are asked to commit to completing 50 hours of volunteer work in a 6-month period. The training will count towards the 50-hour commitment. Program Volunteers are not required to have previous experience working with horses; all training is provided.

Catholic Guardian Services operates one of our homes for aging and severely developmentally disabled people at 1841 Lacombe Avenue in the Bronx. 16 individuals live in this home. While we have been able to do extensive renovation inside the home, our State rates, which have not been raised in over seven years, do not allow us to update the garden area in front of and on the side of the home. This includes weeding and preparing a vegetable garden area that our individuals with their staff will work on throughout the spring and summer months. In addition we would like flowers planted in front of the home which will create a more homelike environment for the people who live in the home. So we need volunteers to clean up the front and side garden areas and plant flowers and prepare the vegetable garden for planting. We strive to make all of our homes as warm and inviting as possible for the people who live there and this would go a long way towards making that possible. We will provide lunch for the volunteers in our home.Available Shifts
