Meals on Wheels Texoma depends on over 150 volunteers to deliver our hot, nutritious meals to homebound elderly and disabled every day. On a yearly basis, we require the assistance of 700 volunteers to ensure that our seniors don't go hungry. Volunteers are our most precious resource and we never have too many of them. Volunteers are needed to pick up our hot, prepared meals at a local senior citizens center and deliver them to the seniors on any one of 83 different routes we deliver daily. Each route contains between 10 and 30 stops on it, and it generally takes a volunteer between one and two hours to complete their duties which include picking the prepared meals up, delivering them to the senior citizens on their route, notating on the route sheet whether or not the meal was successfully delivered, and then returning the delivery bags and coolers to the senior center.

On Saturday, April 1st at Aggie Park, 70 Volunteers are needed to make this event a great success and experience for the attendees. The Fiesta Especial Family FIESTAval is a meet and greet for the Fiesta Especial Royal Court that is free and open for the public to attend. Individuals of all abilities and families are invited to come out and meet this year's royal court. Live music, games, activities, food and fun are all a part of the day's festivities. Merchandise, food and snacks are sold. Proceeds from this event are used to purchase the supplies, staff and resources for the Fiesta Especial Royal Court program.
The Fiesta Especial Royal Court is a leadership and life skills development program for individuals with physical, cognitive or sensory disabilities.

Opportunity Details

Volunteer Registration for the 2017 Fiesta Especial® Celebration Day is open. Volunteers are of vital importance in making this program a success. This is an inclusive and community-based educational experience that attracts special education classes, group homes and day programs from San Antonio and surround communities giving each guest the opportunity to ride all types of rides, play games, eat yummy food and participate in a Shoebox parade with the support of a number of special amenities and volunteers. Over 150 volunteers are needed to help load up the night before, set-up, work an event shift and help clean-up and tear down. Every helping hand makes this special day a possibility.

Opportunity Details

NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY TO BE A HERO! PFP utilizes their horses in a variety of ways to help individuals with special needs overcome their challenges via hippotherapy, vaulting, independent riding, and on the ground activities among others. Volunteers are needed DAILY, primarily for leading the horses and sidewalking with the riders.

Although there are many breeds of horses to use, PFP uses quarter horses due to their quiet disposition, and varying sizes. There are only a couple of exceptions - our Shire, Rupert, who weighs about 1,800 lbs (don’t let his size fool you...he really loves kids); our 2 Haflingers, our 2 mini donkeys, and our 2 mini goats.

Along with the everyday programs, PFP also has some show teams. There is the Special Olympics team that travels to the state meet every fall, and the NSBA team which travels regionally to some top AQHA shows, as well as the world show in Tulsa, OK. The program is always changing and could only benefit from having new people join!

So, come be a HERO to someone with special needs and make some new friends as well!

This event is for adults living with intellectual disabilities, and is facilitated by Seafair at the Meydenbauer Yacht Club of Bellevue. The Highland Community Center makes this free event available to our clients by providing a volunteer to join them on their cruise. Volunteers will join a group of clients aboard a yacht to cruise around Lake Washington. Each yacht will be decorated with lights and other festive gear. The yachts light up the lake as their cruise the shoreline, listening to holiday classics, talking to Santa on the radio, and visiting with Santa later in the evening.

The Highland Community Center facilitates this event each year for adults living with intellectual disabilities. Volunteers for this event help to decorate and create a winter wonderland for our clients. Throughout the event volunteers are encouraged sway the night away and engage clients in the seasonal dances presented. Grab your costume and join us for our annual Halloween Howl, if you dare! The Highland Community Center facilitates this spooktacular event each year for adults living with intellectual disabilities. Volunteers for this event help to create a delightful monster mash of an evening for our clients. Activities range from costume display to starting a full ballroom blitz. Dear Friend of MDA!

The 2016 MDA Chicago Muscle Team Event takes place on Friday, October 21st at Navy Pier & we would love for you to join our team as a volunteer this year! This high-energy, sports-themed event pairs local and national athletes, celebrities and military personnel with MDA’s Most Valuable Players (MVPs) — our local children and adults living with neuromuscular disease.

Throughout the night, guests will enjoy:
• Live and Silent Auctions
• Fine food and beverages in the historic atmosphere of Chicago’s Navy Pier Grand Ballroom
• The opportunity to mingle with local business leaders as well as our celebrity athletes and MDA ambassadors

With your help we are looking to continue putting on the same great event that helps fuel progress in MDA’s mission to save and improve the lives of kids and adults with muscular dystrophy, ALS and other diseases that take away strength and mobility.

Volunteers are needed to assist with many things including registration, the auctions and auction check-out, several attractions and much more. Our event will be starting at 6:00 p.m., with VIP guests arriving at .We are asking volunteers to come at 4:00 in order to provide them time to eat a light dinner and briefly go over last minute volunteer instructions.
