Clorox Employees,

Paying for college is one of the greatest barriers for most students. College financial aid is particularly important in Oakland where over 70% of Oakland Unified students qualify as low income.

Right now, in the heat of the financial aid application season it's crunch time, and schools are hard pressed for hands on support to help students complete their scholarship and public aid applications.

As long time supporters of the Marcus Foster Education Fund and our Oakland/Pleasanton scholars, we would like to invite you to have an on-the-ground experience of the scholarship process.

We are seeking Clorox volunteers to work with students 1-1 in the evening, morning or afternoon to prepare strong scholarship applications for March 2nd deadline.

We will train you to coach students through Marcus Foster's Making REAL Change application which can qualify Oakland students for a Clorox scholarship, among other financial assistance awards.

If you are interested in working directly with students to help increase the pool of eligible Clorox scholarship recipients, now is the time to jump in!

All interested Volunteers /Scholarship Application Assistants will also receive a link to a tutorial of the Making REAL Change Scholarship application.

Respond to this post to sign up to attend the Marcus Foster's Making REAL Change Volunteer Orientation. Please contact Basma Khairy, bkhairy@marcusfoster.org | 510-858-2174 if you have any questions regarding volunteer opportunities at Marcus Foster Education Fund.

Your time and service makes real change possible!

The United Somali Youth weekend Program is a year around program that is held at Madison Park Community Center, Melnea Case Arena and Tobin Community Center in Roxbury. We will target elementary, middle, and high school aged youths. Almost all of the youth we serve are refugees and immigrants; many have recently arrived in Boston directly from refugee camps in Africa. Our program focuses primarily on sports and fitness (basketball, soccer, track & field, and nutrition) and life skills development (leadership, mentoring, and community engagement). We also provide a supportive environment for refugees and immigrants youth to connect with peers who share their cultural heritage and are also learning to adjust to life here in the United States. The demand for our services is growing. Last year, over 300 young people attended our program, which was a significantly larger number than we expected. We want to be prepared for a similar amount of participants this year.
