Genesys Works Bay Area is currently supporting our ambitious high school students with college applications, and we would love the support from our amazing volunteers! Join us in assisting Genesys Works Young Professionals with editing and reviewing the writing samples that will accompany their college applications. Your support will help them on their pathway to college and career success!Time investment: ~2.5 hours
Experience with writing a college essay is helpful!
Here's what volunteers need to know:
1) Orientation and Resources: We will invite volunteers to join an Orientation Session scheduled on Monday, November 6th, 2023, from 3:00 PM to 3:45 PM Pacific. This session will provide valuable insights and guidance for essay revisions.
2) Student-Volunteer Pairing: Each volunteer will be matched with one Young Professional. Genesys Works staff will introduce the volunteer and student via email. Each volunteer receives the essay of that student and is given the opportunity to schedule a meeting to review the essay and offer feedback and tips.

We continue to build homes on the San Carlos Apache Reservation, where unemployment exceeds 75% and the need for homes stands at over 1,400! With the labors of volunteers joining our small team, and the funds they might provide, 38 homes have already been built. These homes are completed with working kitchens and restrooms, as well as a common room and two bedrooms (typically.) We also enjoy the help from others who join in the fun four afternoons each week on our mobile ministry center...our "Church Bus." from 20-60 kids arrive in their neighborhoods when our horn honks and they come running from everywhere to join in.The opportunities for service are many...the impact created, eternal!

Please join us to volunteer for JA Inspire to Hire at the Kentucky Exposition Center January 30 & 31 from 8:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.JA Inspire builds a relationship-based pipeline between young people and companies who will need talent when the students complete their education. Employers will be able to introduce their career opportunities to emerging leaders and companies will have an opportunity to set up interviews with job ready young people. JA Inspire showcases a wide array of career opportunities from local businesses, non-profit organizations, government agencies, and educational institutions. Each booth at the event is designed to highlight career paths, educational prerequisites, and potential salary ranges, offering valuable insights to participating students.
Some of the various volunteer assignments available are:
Front Door Assistants: Welcoming and assisting attendees at the entrance.
Bus Coordinator Helpers: Supporting our transportation coordination team.
Exhibit Room Floaters: Assisting with the smooth flow of activities in the exhibit rooms.
Handing Out Bags/Lobby Flow: Distributing event materials and helping with lobby logistics.

Our Kids Read is looking for volunteers to:- join our Reading Buddies program (you would read for 45 minutes over Zoom to a K-5th grade student, once per week for 12 weeks)

Volunteers will have extensive latitude for the use of personal initiative and independent judgement in developing and executing the marketing plan, under the supervision of AAB’s Executive Director and board.

Arkansas Asset Builders is a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program partner, providing free, volunteer-prepared tax preparation to individuals and families with annual incomes up to $60,000. Tax refunds that include the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and Child Tax Credit (CTC) are an important resource for hard-working families, helping them to get ahead financially, pay down debt and work toward saving for the future.At VITA sites, IRS-trained and certified volunteers prepare and electronically file state and federal income tax forms at no charge and determine a taxpayer’s qualifications for tax credits and refunds. We help our clients avoid predatory fees and financial products offered by the for-profit tax preparation industry that target low-income households with the largest tax refunds.
Since 2017, Arkansas Asset Builders’ volunteers have prepared over 2,480 tax returns, saving our clients $590,000 in avoided tax preparation fees and returning more than $2.3 million in federal tax refunds to our community. IF YOU HAVE THESE SKILLS…
- Experience using computers;
- Time to commit at least three hours per week from late-January until mid-April; and,
- Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills, in English or Spanish.

The majority of our volunteer activities are conducted in person at the Faulkner County Library in Conway, AR, however remote volunteer opportunities may also be available. Email volunteer@arkansasassetbuilders.org if you are specifically interested in remote service.
TAX SITE ROLES
Tax Preparer:
Prepare income tax returns using TaxSlayer Online software, communicate with clients regarding any tax documents that are missing, quality review the work of other volunteers (if experienced).
Intake Coordinator:
Determine whether a taxpayer qualifies for VITA services, help filers complete the required intake process, manage appointment schedules, answer general questions about our process and services.
Savings Specialist:
Help filers learn about ways to save and stretch their refunds, pull free credit reports and review with clients, provide referrals to other services.
Spanish Interpreter:
Assist in translating languages for both volunteers and filers.

Volunteer with the IRC this #Give2023 Month to lend a helping hand to our newest neighbors! The IRC in Seattle helps 2,500+ refugees and immigrants in Western Washington each year lead safer, healthier, and more economically secure lives, while connecting them with opportunities to exercise their power and work toward their long-term goals.DESCRIPTION: Volunteers will learn about the work of IRC, refugee resettlement, and how our Early Employment program supports newly arrived refugees reach economic self-sufficiency through employment, budget planning, and more. Following the presentation, volunteers will participate in a kit building activity to assemble one of the following kits:
1. Starter Employment Kit
• 1 $25 Uber or Lyft gift card
• 1 Messenger or Laptop Bag
• 1 New or Like-New Cellphone
2. Pro Employment Kit
• 1 New or Like-New Tablet or Laptop
• 1 $25 Uber or Lyft Gift Card
• Male, Female or Gender Neutral Business Casual Clothes (must be new and never worn, department store gift cards are welcome)
GEOGRAPHIC REACH/IMPACT: This activity will directly benefit newcomers in South King County, WA (e.g Auburn, Tukwila, Federal Way, Renton).
PARTICIPANTS: We recommend groups of 5-10 participants.
