IRC Seattle helps refugees who are rebuilding their lives in the United States get adjusted to their new country by finding them housing, referrals to jobs, enrolling children in school, finding medical care, etc. Our office serves more than 6000 refugees and immigrant newcomers from countries like Afghanistan, Ukraine, Congo, Syria, and many other countries all around the world. Refugees arrive in the United States with very little, including hygiene supplies.

Groups (or even individuals) can pack hygiene kits that can be donated to our clients. IRC Seattle and Microsoft participants will work together to decide the contents of the kit and how many kits to build. Sample items that the IRC needs for our clients are:
• Body wash
• Deodorant
• Toothpaste
• Toothbrushes
• Shampoo
• Soap bar

IRC Seattle can provide ideas of where to purchase these items in bulk to save significantly!

For any questions, you can also contact Aaron Nilson (aaron.nilson@rescue.org).

Min/Max participants: 1-150

Facilitation: Participants do not need in-person facilitation. IRC will work with Giving Champion(s) on how and where to purchase items in the kit and how IRC and Microsoft can collaborate to receive the built kits.

Repeatability: This could be done by many groups.

Duration of event: 15-60 minutes, depending on how many kits each participant would like to build.

Geographic Reach: Hygiene kits will be shared with refugee families arriving to the Puget Sound and Western Washington.

Funding requirement: Amount depends on the size of the group, number of kits to create, and size of the kits.

Additional Details:
• The time between purchasing supplies and when supplies arrive could be a couple of weeks.
• It’s important to have some sort of bag to pack the hygiene kits into. IRC Seattle has used small plastic draw-string bags that can be purchased for less than $0.25/unit.
• In the past we've secured bulk items from Dollardays.com and BagsInBulk.com.
