Connect with a jobseeker on their path to a sustainable career in the tech industry!

NPower Canada is a national non-profit organization providing low-income, diverse job seekers, with no-cost technical and professional skills training, industry certifications, job placement services and five years of alumni support including mentorship and continued education.

WHAT?
We are looking for volunteers to have career conversations and inspire our Cybersecurity, Junior IT, and Junior Data Analyst program participants on a Professional/Personal development subject of their choice. The event duration could be one hour depending on the volunteers' availability. You will receive assistance from NPower Canada staff in preparing for the event with all the necessary steps and arranging the logistics. During the event, NPower Canada staff will introduce volunteers to participants, support with activities as needed and facilitate a brief thank-you/wrap-up moment to obtain feedback.

WHY?
Coming from barriered backgrounds and dealing with financial issues, most NPower Canada participants have not had any experience with the corporate workforce. Most do not have family members or personal networks who can support their job search in tech and/or they are new to the IT world. Whether or not they are newcomers to the country, their professional networks are often limited. Therefore, NPower Canada has a corporate volunteer engagement program that provides additional professional development support to its participants by connecting them with industry leaders.

HOW?
Throughout the event, RBC volunteers will provide advice and encouragement to NPower Canada’s diverse job seekers during two rounds of networking and/or coaching sessions (25-30 minutes each). Participants and volunteers will be placed in break-out rooms for 1:1 conversation. RBC volunteers are encouraged to lead the conversation by discussing their role and daily responsibilities before sharing career advice with participants. Before the event, a detailed guidance note containing prompts, further instructions and the meeting link will be distributed to all volunteers.

NPower Canada is strongly committed to equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) in its work with industry partners to cultivate an inclusive Canadian tech workforce. Among its graduates to date, 43% have been female identified, 90% have belonged to BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and people of colour) communities and 43% have been newcomers. NPower Canada also prioritizes serving LGBTQ2SIA+ communities and persons with disabilities.

Participants find encouragement, inspiration, and new information at our volunteer events, and our volunteers get to engage with entry-level professionals and understand their perspectives.

Sign up today! We will close registration when we reach capacity.
