They will also receive new shoes, a backpack and a book of their choice. For many of these children, this is the first time they will receive new clothes. We expect to clothe about 500 children and need about 300 volunteers.

Our debate clubs rely on enthusiastic, amazing volunteers just like you who generously give an hour of their week to train at our clubs. Our volunteers are university students, graduates, and those further on in their careers. We are looking for anyone who wants to make a difference to disadvantaged young people.

Help us to improve the social mobility of young people and develop their leadership skills through our debate education programmes. We work towards the social inclusion of marginalised youth by developing future skills, including critical thinking, critical consumption skills, divergent thinking, analysis, public speaking, active listening and teamwork. We do this by mentoring them to debate human rights issues relevant to their everyday lives in weekly Debate Clubs and regular tournaments.

The IDEA Fellowship

The Fellowship is open to anyone who is capable of public speaking or teaching who can donate an hour or two a week of their time to coach young people to achieve their potential. As a Fellow, you must ensure that you are able to commit to training students regularly, every week, or every couple of weeks as we look for candidates who can provide consistency to a club. We provide lots of support in matching you to a club, in training you, and in helping you develop into the role. And we assign two or more coaches in partnership to ensure the consistent running of a club.

What good would you be doing?

Providing opportunities to young people from marginalised backgrounds
Developing the skills that students will need for the 21st century
Providing a bridge between disadvantaged young people and university/the workplace
Enabling the voice of young people
The benefits of the IDEA fellowship

Extensive professional level training on how to debate and how to teach debate
Developing your skills; leadership, organisation, mentoring and communications
An opportunity to meet others as motivated as you from a diverse range of backgrounds and careers including corporates such as shell and JLL and government departments.
All expenses covered (up to £40 per session)
As part of the fellowship, you will need to attend the induction programme and/or workshops conducted once a month (usually in the evening). We provide free-access to IDEA social events, opportunities to represent IDEA to international debating events as an adjudicator. You will be compensated for travel expenses related to the fellowship and we will provide a stipend in return for your time contributing to the programme.

Looking to participate in a radically green develoment project? Long Way Home is constructing a self-sustainable 18-building green campus in the western Highlands of Guatemala. Using alternative methods and materials, we are empowering the youth of this community, the majority of whom are Kaqchikel Maya, to be the architects of their own futures.

We practice several methods of alternative construction including earth rammed tires, earthbags, trash bottles, and aluminum! We also boast a rainwater catchment system with the capacity to store 45,000 gallons of water. As a volunteer, you will join our local construction crew and other volunteers that participate in the construction of the school. Most of the campus is finished and operating a school of grades K-11 with 150 students and 35 local staff, while we continue construction. In Guatemala, there is a dry season (Nov-April) and a rainy season (May-Oct), and we work throughout the whole year. We accept volunteers of all skills and experience levels! It is important to have a good attitude, team player, motivation to help out, and be flexible. Must be able to walk up and down hills at high elevation (7,000 ft). On-site we have a communal kitchen. All the water we collect from rainwater, some of which is filtered for drinking water on-site and at the volunteer house.

Long Way Home's mission is to use sustainable design to construct self-sufficient buildings that promote education, employment, and environmental stewardship. We've used more than 400 tons of trash and over 15500 tires in our construction so far. We aim to end the cycle of poverty through innovation that is relevant to the context.

About Rubicon
Rubicon Programs is a groundbreaking organization on a mission to transform East Bay communities by equipping people to break the cycle of poverty. Recognized as a national leader in workforce development, Rubicon has placed thousands of East Bay residents into employment, including over 650 in the last year alone. In an exciting period of transition, Rubicon recently launched an ambitious program designed to address the underpinnings of poverty, rather than solely help participants land a job. Our new model moves very low-income members of our community, including a significant homeless and recently incarcerated population, to lasting mobility through guided achievement in four areas: Income, Assets, Wellness, and opportunities to build positive Community Connections.

Rubicon has developed an antiracism stance that sets forth how we will combat racism in our
communities and develop equity practices within our organization. All of our work is guided by our core values of justice, hope, and humility.

About the Young Professionals Board (YPB)
We can’t break poverty alone. In a time and place with unprecedented wealth – the Bay Area in 2017 – many of our most vulnerable community members risk being excluded or displaced by increased economic investment. The Young Professionals Board (YPB) will raise awareness about the needs, challenges, and assets of our neighbors living in poverty, and raise funds to support Rubicon’s work of ensuring opportunities for the communities we serve. The YPB will plan and implement activities to raise awareness and financial support for Rubicon – one idea is an after-party connected with our signature annual event in April.

In addition to the personal rewards of supporting an organization that does important and necessary work in our community, joining the YPB is a great way to meet, network, and socialize with fun and hardworking young professionals.

Responsibilities
The YPB will provide opportunities for Members to hone their leadership skills. Similar to the
responsibilities of being on a governing Board, YPB members will have project leadership as well as
fundraising responsibilities. We anticipate the time commitment to be approximately 4-5
hours/month.

Project Leadership
-Attend YPB meetings (monthly/bimonthly as needed).
-Be an active participant in between meetings to achieve the YPB’s objectives. This can include taking the lead on organizing outreach efforts/events, spreading the word about campaigns on social media, making introductions, and more.
-Contribute to recruiting and growing YPB membership during founding year.

Fundraising
-Individual fundraising: Meet an individual fundraising goal of $500 over the course of the
year. If you meet half of the goal by the end of March, you will earn two tickets to Rubicon’s
annual special event.
-Group Fundraising: Raise funds as a group by planning and implementing activities to raise
awareness and financial support for Rubicon.

Process to Join
1. Complete brief application.
2. Participate in phone or in-person interview with Rubicon staff.
3. Receive offer

STRIVE CT is an experiential job readiness program that teaches soft skills to job seekers to help them obtain and maintain employment. Our training program covers topics such as (1) time management, (2) emotional and self-awareness, (3) branding yourself as a professional, (4) problem solving,
(5) successful interviewing tips, and much more.

As a part of our job readiness program, we provide a program called STRIVE for Kids. This program focuses on teaching kids - grades 1 to 8 - the core ideas to become job ready. While these children are not ready to enter the workforce, we know from our experience the importance of beginning these conversations at a young age so when they reach a working age, they have the soft skills that will make a difference between a job offer or rejection.

To introduce STRIVE to grade school children, we plan to lead a set of training activities that focuses on teaching STRIVE through the five human senses - see, touch, smell, hearing, and sound. Through these activities, we will lead a discussion on why personal grooming is important, how personal grooming impacts relationships, and how personal grooming influences our career opportunities.

Volunteers from The Hartford are needed to collect, package, and deliver personal hygiene products for 350 students. In addition, volunteers will be asked to participate in the workshop as co-facilitators and to provide general support during the workshop.

As a result of this project, we anticipate students learning the basic concepts of job readiness. We also anticipate parents enrolling in STRIVE to help them with their individual job readiness and job search efforts.

Are you a graphic designer looking to make an impact on a new social enterprise? Help us build the brand for Unloop Studio - a web development agency connecting formerly incarcerated developers with projects!

Many formerly incarcerated developers have barriers that prevent them from getting a traditional tech job, such as geographic location or a conviction that carries stigma. We see Unloop Studio as a pathway to help developers build their own freelancing businesses, allowing them to make a living wage anywhere they go.

We've got an Unloop logo and color scheme, but we're looking for a new take on these for the Unloop Studio brand. Completing this project will require weekly meetings (and some collaboration by phone or email) over about one month, but we're flexible on the schedule.

Our website, which will hold the new Unloop Studio landing page, can be found here: www.un-loop.org
