Position: Treasurer, Board of Directors
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced finance professional to serve as our Treasurer. This leadership role is vital in ensuring financial transparency, sustainability, and strategic growth as we expand our programs and services.
Key Responsibilities:
✅ Maintain oversight of financial records and ensure accurate bookkeeping.
✅ Present financial reports at board meetings, advising on the organization's financial health.
✅ Work with the Executive Director and Finance Committee to develop annual budgets and forecasts.
✅ Ensure compliance with financial regulations, reporting requirements, and best practices.
✅ Advise on funding strategies to support the organization’s mission and growth.
Ideal Candidate:
✔ Professional experience in accounting, finance, or a related field (CPA preferred).
✔ Previous board experience or familiarity with non-profit financial management.
✔ Strong understanding of budgeting, cash flow management, and compliance.
✔ Passion for community impact, mental wellness, and supporting Black, African, and Caribbean families.
✔ Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Time Commitment:
📅 Attend 6-8 board meetings per year (held virtually in the evenings).
📅 Serve on at least one board committee (Finance, Governance, or Fundraising).
📅 Term Length: Renewable 2-year term, approx. 20-30 hours annually.

Volunteers for this position are relied on for vital tasks associated with the execution of projects and programs. Thank you for taking the time to learn more about how you can serve our community!One of the best ways to help MEDA in this coming year is by signing up for our Tax Volunteer program. In previous years we provided more than $6 million dollars in tax returns to our local community. That remarkable effort was only possible with the assistance of volunteers like you!
No previous experience is necessary! We provide tax training for all volunteers. You can get started by signing up for one of MEDA's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Tax Preparer Training sessions in either December or January.
During these sessions, you will receive training to provide free tax help for low-to-moderate-income families who need assistance preparing their tax returns. As a volunteer, you will join the thousands of others who each year prepare millions of tax returns at thousands of tax sites nationwide. We have roles as Greeters (this is a vital role) and Basic/Advanced Volunteer Tax Preparers. Successful completion of Basic Training Part I and II is required for those who would like to volunteer as a Basic Tax Preparer.
Upcoming VITA Tax Preparer Training Dates:
Each session will culminate with a test to become certified as a Tax Preparer. (Attendance is only required at one training or until you’re able to become certified).

- 170 Otis Service Center (170 Otis Street) - Drop off only! Taxes will be processed virtually by GetYourRefund.Org
Volunteers will be provided further information and instructions on how to sign up for shifts after completing the training.
