Since 2013, FTPF helped pave the way towards a healthier future for Salvadorans by planting and distributing fruit trees throughout the country, including with families, schools, and women’s groups. Working closely with two respected NGOs, SHARE El Salvador and CONFRAS, we have launched a ten-year plan to plant thousands of fruit trees each year. Some families are already supporting themselves through income from their orchards: “We have been able to feed ourselves, make money, and have noticed a change in the environment. Thank you for all the effort you have put in towards the success of our land.” -Don Pedro Juan de Jesus Avarca (pictured) standing next to a mango tree we planted at his home.

We invite you to join us by volunteering for a week-long fruit tree planting eco-adventure every July. Activities include planting trees and interacting with schools and families and learning about best practices from our arborists. On the last day, there is an excursion to reflect and visit some of Central America’s most important historical sites. A select number of volunteers may be invited to join the FTPF to on to the next project in Guatemala. Please indicate if you are interested in the Guatemala portion of this opportunity in your application (available on our website).

Under-privileged women are trained to make various products such as Khakhras (roasted wheat crispies), premium chocolates, vegan hand-crafted bath & body products, handicrafts, etc. to help them earn a dignified living and become independent. These products are made under strict supervision and are FSSAI and FDA approved. They are sold across 22 cities in India and also exported to USA, Canada, Dubai, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, etc. Various corporates support us by ordering gift hampers for social gifting and providing us space at their office locations to exhibit and sell our products. All proceeds are ploughed back for welfare and upliftment initiatives for these women.

We need volunteers to help us reach out to more corporates, get corporate orders for the products and manage stalls at corporate exhibitions.

Times have changed - as COVID -19 grips the world, we have been thrust into a completely unprecedented scenario. Within the last month, India has seen its COVID-19 cases skyrocket with our nation currently standing 9th highest, globally for the number of COVID cases.

This is far from ideal.

We can look at COVID-19 as being our universal equalizer, failing to discriminate based on class, race, or creed. And with India’s superfluity of villages, slums, and rural localities, it’s important that like COVID-19, we too, should not discriminate against these sectors of our society. India’s rural communities make up 68.4% percent of our overall population, 833.1 million individuals to be exact. It is heartbreaking to think that for a whopping 68.4% of the Indian populous, the only means of receiving reliable information on COVID-19 is through the aid of local healthcare workers - most of whom are women.

These women constitute a class of healthcare workers known as Asha workers. Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) is a trained female community health activist. Selected from the community itself and accountable to it, the ASHA will be trained to work as an interface between the community and the public health system. At present, there are over 9 Lakh ASHAs in India.

It is with this intention that 1Million for 1Billion is launching a COVID training curriculum. The aim is to raise awareness and encourage self sustainability specifically among rural women to help them emerge as COVID Warriors in their communities.

The curriculum will help beneficiaries stay updated with relevant information about the disease, such as precautionary measures necessary for limited person-to-person transfer, testing methods available in the country, identifying symptoms and notifying concerned authorities if one has knowledge of active cases, and being responsible if tested positive.

You can volunteer for the cause by being a trainer for the One Hour Long Curriculum and raise awareness in rural areas of India. The content is completely digitised and you will only have to be a facilitator for the Program- Clear steps and guidance will be provided to you for the same.

Please let us know if this opportunity interests you and we will take it forward from there.
