Do you want to help underrepresented young entrepreneurs make their business idea a reality?

Skysthelimit.org is a 501(c)(3) tech nonprofit based in Oakland, CA. We are leading a movement to ensure that every entrepreneur has the same chance to chase their business dreams. Our mission is to connect underrepresented young adult entrepreneurs with one-on-one support from volunteer business mentors and advisors, as well as provide tailored entrepreneurship training, and business funding opportunities. We are a tech nonprofit leveraging scalable digital service to increase the chances of underserved entrepreneurs’ success.

Your work will directly impact the lives of underserved young adults (ages 18 to 29), helping them create new economic opportunities. The impact of micro business ownership is huge - you will enable young people to create a new source of income, develop marketable skills and enhance their sense of empowerment and dignity.

To become a business mentor or advisor, go to skysthelimit.org and click "Get Started"!

DETAILS
Flexible Volunteer Business Mentoring & Advising
You choose who you work with as well as when, where and how you meet. Everything can be done virtually, with the option to meet in-person. You can join Skysthelimit.org at any time by creating your profile on the platform and attending a virtual orientation training. Each volunteer decides how often and how long they will work with a given entrepreneur.

Skill Development
Developing the ability to coach and mentor effectively across diverse teams is a top skill for managers. Improving inclusive communication requires real-world practice with diverse communities.

Meaningful Impact
Our program offers a transformative experience for both the mentor and the mentee. You’ll have the opportunity to build meaningful relationships within our community and could help change the trajectory of a young person’s life and maybe even your own!

How it Works:
Mentors and advisors usually work with one young entrepreneur at a time, supporting them in a combination of in-person and virtual forums depending upon what is needed.

Mentoring and advising sessions usually last ~1hr and take place remotely or in-person (if possible) a few times a month.

Mentors/advisors and young entrepreneurs can end their matches at any time.

REQUIREMENTS
Ability to quickly create a trusting relationship founded on the right intentions, recognizing the respect you show to your young entrepreneur and the confidence our young people place in you.

A strong belief in and demonstrated alignment with skysthelimit.org's social mission, and an interest in small business development.

Patience and empathy to "get in the shoes" of our young entrepreneurs, identifying and providing the support that they need when they need it.

Ability to appropriately break down business strategy and effectively communicate with young entrepreneurs, while understanding your role as a mentor, not an owner.

Please contact Danee at program@skysthelimit.org for more information! We would love to hear from you.
