Now in its third year, the 2019 Celebration of Science (#CoSci19) celebrates Our Scientific Heritage. The event moves to The Fingernail in Howard Amon Park in 2019 to facilitate better non-motorized access, more picnic facilities, and more opportunities for families to enjoy the day. The theme for this event, “Our Scientific Heritage,” recognizes how scientific and engineering investments of the past shape our present and future. For the third year running, there will be booths hosted by local community organizations and businesses. This free, family-friendly event brings the community together to enjoy hands-on science activities and engage with some of the world-class scientists who live and work in the Mid-Columbia region. Previous events spawned business opportunities and friendships, increased participation in local programs, and inspired young minds to be future engineers, developers, and scientists.
We need volunteers at the event to help in a variety of roles. Our booth hosts need some support to help them take a break. Most booths will have hands-on activities and volunteers can help visitors with those while the booth hosts discuss the science behind them. We will need help putting the park back how we found it. GoGreen TriCities usually provides recycling for the event, but we need help picking up stray bits, helping booth hosts set up and pack out, and plenty of other odds and ends that just take manpower.
