Mentors are a vital pillar at Mentor Africa Foundation. As an organization primarily dedicated to building Africa’s No. 1 mentoring community, our mentors are our biggest allies in our journey to building Africa’s next generation of skilled, diverse, employable and empowered youth population, for the continent’s labour market and beyond.

The Mentor Africa Foundation mentoring programme is a non-traditional, quintessential mentoring experience to cater to young Africans hoping to gain career know-how, industry insights, guidance, and tools required for personal and professional development. And help industry leaders build and maintain leadership, management and mentoring skills.

The mentor onboarding process begins with signing up via our website, www.mentorafricafoundation.com to create a mentor profile which allows professional social media integration, i.e. LinkedIn. Following a careful review and approval of your mentor account, your profile will be displayed on our mentoring board making you discoverable by display or native search using your name, industry or country.

As a MAF mentor, you can take on two (2) mentees per session, for a self-structured, 6-month program.

Our web and mobile applications beta-tested by our mentors and mentees for seamless user-centred experience, provide a one location mentoring hub with an instant messaging chat feature, discussion and networking forums, resource library and listings with open access to community monitored postings for research papers, pdfs, learning materials, career opportunities, etc.

More information

If we want to change the culture around gender inequalities, we need to hear more women’s voices and their experience.

The Syndrome released its first self-published book, Random Female Syndromes: Funny Fixes for All the Things You Thought Were Wrong With You, in 2019. The book is a compilation of true stories written by 35 women of a wide array of races and cultures trying to succeed and survive in a world that insists there’s something wrong with us. It targets issues like #MeToo, the pay gap, and reproductive rights, providing laughter around important gender equality issues.

Our second book (work in progress) is called Show Us Your Wits: Funny Women Surviving Coronavirus Lockdown by Laughing Through It. It’s an anthology of funny essays about how women and non-binary writers across the world are coping with quarantine, social distancing, teleworking, parenting from home and all the other changes we face because of the COVID-19 crisis. In a world where COVID19 has taken a disproportionate toll on women and made gender inequality even more pronounced, these essays show the power of laughter to heal and release stress.

We need help to build a sound marketing strategy to launch the second book and promote both books, target readers and generate sales.

What do we need your help for?

• Develop book marketing strategy to drive discoverability and sales
• Brand development
• Establish strategy goals and analytics to determine success
• Determine best use of multiple channels (author websites/ landing pages, newsletter, video, digital and social media communications, advertising, publicity, etc.)
• Define budget for book marketing campaigns

Your qualifications:
• Strong communication and business writing skills
• Marketing experience
• Digitally savvy
• Ability to work remotely

Time needed: around 2h a week for 3 months

Conditions: speak English

The nonprofit already has: Copy of the books (one currently self-published on Amazon); Press Releases; Graphics
