The Regional Board provides critical support and leadership in guiding Reading Partners operations on a local level. Regional board members support the executive director and staff and assist in key areas including raising funds, identifying potential partnerships, facilitating conversations, and providing input to the regional executive director on strategic issues to ensure Reading Partners’ sustainability and growth.

Duties & Responsibilities:
-Board Meetings: Attend and participate in at least 75% of monthly board meetings.
-Giving: Contribute to program fundraising goals by making a gift that is significant to you. We ask that Reading Partners Seattle be in your top three giving priorities each year.
-Fundraising Event and Campaigns: Promote and participate in our annual fundraising event and fundraising campaigns with the goal of raising a minimum of $2,000 per board member.
-Reading Center Presence: Contribute to the program mission by committing to a meaningful presence at a Reading Center throughout the school year, virtually or in person. Board members are encouraged to tutor with the program (with a suggested minimum of tutoring at least two sessions per year).
-Provide feedback on regional goals and strategic plans as well as actively reach out to your networks and make introductions to prospective volunteer tutors, board members, or other partners.
-Attend meetings with prospective partners and/or local government when opportunities arise.

Terms & Structure:
-Board member terms are three years, renewable upon approval by ED and board members.
-The Regional Board is managed by the Executive Director and the Regional Board Chair.
-The regional board is an advisory board without fiduciary responsibilities.
-Elections of new board members occur by the approval of current board members after a full vetting process that demonstrates the candidate has a passion for the mission of Reading Partners and is willing to meet board obligations.
-Once approved, the board member’s term begins, and an orientation meeting will be scheduled.

24th Street Theatre's annual Dia de los Muertos/Day of the Dead festival has grown from a small grassroots celebration to a massive block party, encompassing Hoover Blvd from 23rd to 25th Streets. We need volunteers to help with set up (making paper flowers, setting up tents, putting together altars, etc), event logistics (assisting with parking and directing people around barricades), and end of the festival striking (taking down decorations, cleaning up). Our small core staff is there all day and night, and having a great team of volunteers to come in to help 2-4 hours at a time really goes a long way!

Volunteer dates and times are:
Saturday, October 28th 11am-2pm Event Volunteer training, making paper flowers and altar supplies
Thursday, November 2nd from 9am to midnight (two to four hour blocks of time are preferred) set up help 9am-5pm, event help 5pm-10pm, tear down 10pm-midnight
Monday, November 6th 11am-6pm (one to three hour blocks of time are preferred) event supply storage and cleaning of 24th Street Theatre

24th Street Theatre is back on November 2 with its annual, free Dia de los Muertos block party, headlined this year by Latin surf band The Space Sanchos and, direct from México City, singer-songwriter Rafael Mendoza. Other performers set for the outdoor stage include Mariachi Calilajara; Aztec dance troupe Huitzilopochtli; ballet folklórico Sol de Fuego; the “Catrina Guapachosa” on stilts (Ismael Ramirez); and more. Enjoy homemade tamales, craft booths, and a graveyard where families can make their own altars for departed loved ones, plus a Ferris wheel and merry-go-round. The evening kicks off at 5:45 p.m. with a procession led by ceremonial dancers Comparsa de Chinelos Amigos de Morelos. Come in costume!

Presented in partnership with Los Angeles City Council President Pro Tempore Marqueece Harris-Dawson (CD8) and Council Member Eunisses Hernandez (CD1) along with State Assembly member Reggie Jones-Sawyer Sr. (CA-59), the festival will extend beyond the stage at 24th Street Theatre to Hoover Street from 23rd to 25th Streets.
