The Listening Place is a volunteer-led charity aiming to transform how we support people who feel suicidal. Our carefully selected and trained volunteers are part of a team delivering face-to-face, confidential, ongoing support to thousands of people each year. They help create the warm and welcoming environment that encourages people struggling with suicidal thoughts and feelings to talk openly without being judged or given advice. Watch our video here to find out more: https://tinyurl.com/4fczwy8uOur Listening Volunteers provide ongoing face-to-face support to visitors on regular, fortnightly 4-hour shifts during which they meet with up to 3 visitors individually (for up to 50 minutes each). No experience or qualifications are necessary. We look for warmth, empathy and resilience in our volunteers and the ability to be non-judgemental and avoid giving advice. Helping Volunteers are central to each shift as they meet and greet our visitors and support the Listening Volunteers on shift. For this varied role we are recruiting volunteers who have the empathy to greet distressed visitors, the willingness to undertake a variety of admin and other tasks and the resilience to support their team. Our Helping Volunteers need to be proactive, self-starters and team players with a basic understanding of IT who are able to commit to a regular, weekly four-hour shift.
In order to ensure continuity for our visitors we require a one-year minimum commitment from our LVs, as well as three months’ notice of intention to leave. We require a 6 month commitment from our HVs.

Our mission is to provide support to animal rescues, shelters and community-owned pets through education, services, and fundraising. Our main objective is to reduce the number of homeless dogs and cats and lower euthanasia rates in shelters. The concept for this event is to come together at the end of the year to recognize all the hard work done by rescuers and all those who have supported them. The goal of this event is not only to raise funds and awareness for animal welfare organizations, but also to cultivate better relationships and improve networking among them. Our theme this year is "Enchanted Garden of Good and Evil" and we could use help with bringing that vision to life. Set-Up for the event is on 11/14/2025 at the Hollywood Casino in Charles Town WV.Available Shifts
