Hurricane Helene made landfall as a Category 4 storm and caused widespread destruction across the Southeastern United States.

All Hands and Hearts has a strict minimum age policy. We cannot accept residential volunteers under the age of 18 and day volunteers must be 16 or over and accompanied by a responsible adult (over the age of 18) . No experienced or construction skills are needed.

Location: Our base is just outside of Asheville, North Carolina. You will receive the exact address once you are accepted to join the program

Cost: Volunteering with All Hands and Hearts is free. We provide accommodation for the duration of your stay and meals on workdays. Keep in mind you will be responsible for the cost of your background check, travel both to and from the program, meals on your day(s) off, and any costs associated with taking a three-day mental health break each month where you are required to stay away from the program.

Work Days: Tuesday - Saturday

Days off: Sunday and Monday

Arrival Days: Tuesday -Saturday

Meals: Typical meals will be make-your-own breakfast and lunch, with supplies provided (i.e. oats, eggs, lunch meat, bread, etc. and a warm dinner typically prepared by staff and volunteers, or sometimes provided by community members. Will vary location to location.

Hurricane Milton made landfall as a Category 3 storm near Siesta Key, Florida, unleashing over 18 inches of rainfall to the St. Petersburg area.

All Hands and Hearts has a strict minimum age policy. We cannot accept residential volunteers under the age of 18 and day volunteers must be 16 or over and accompanied by a responsible adult (over the age of 18) . No experienced or construction skills are needed.

Location: Pasco County, Florida. We recommend you fly to Tampa International Airport.

Cost: Volunteering with All Hands and Hearts is free. We provide accommodation for the duration of your stay and meals on workdays. Keep in mind you will be responsible for the cost of your background check, travel both to and from the program, meals on your day(s) off, and any costs associated with taking a three-day mental health break each month where you are required to stay away from the program.

WiFi: We do not provide a wifi on the base. A phone reception in the area is decent so we recommend that volunteers bring come prepared with a data plan.

Access: Shops, restaurants, and ATMs have all been impacted by the hurricane, and resources are limited. Please bring all the essentials that you need with you.

In 2020, Dogs for Better Lives launched its Regional Advisory Boards (RAB), which currently serve in the Pacific Northwest (WA*, OR), West (CA*), Northeast (MA*, PA, CT, RI, NJ, NY), South (TX*), and soon to be in the Southeast (GA*, FL). * denotes key state in region.

The RABs are likeminded professionals who share a passion for DBL's mission and wish to help advocate for and support the national nonprofit in raising awareness regionally/nationally.

In planning local/regional events, the RABs help to promote the need for volunteer raisers to train puppies, as well as the need for foster raisers (TX and GA) to care short term for shelter dogs.

Volunteers Needs: All Ages Welcome!!

Set Up: Tuesday Dec 3rd and Wednesday Dec 4th: Anytime between 10am-10pm
Thursday Dec 5th : Anytime between 8am-4pm
Details: These are the most important days where we need as much help as possible! When you arrive go to the Clock on South side of Plaza. On the attached map shows it as Santa. There will be a table there with different tasks you can choose from. Some will have photos to help . All skill sets can help and will receive a volunteer sweatshirt or t-shirt. Some areas require tools such as cordless drills, bits, ladder and gloves. They are marked with *
Tasks to choose from: Hang Garland or lights on fences and rails
Put batteries in lights
Put up banners and signs
Set up different small or large displays with decorations, inflatables , trees, snow blankets , etc
Screw in 4'x8' flats as shown in the Santa photos. These types are used as back drops for about 10 different displays*
Put up giant TeePee and decorate *
Build and set up live Nativity scenes barn *



During Event : Thursday Dec 5th and Friday Dec 6th: 4pm-6pm or 7:30-9pm
Saturday Dec 7th: 11am-12:30 or 3pm-5pm or 7pm-9pm
Details: In addition to the below we can always use help monitoring lights and inflatables, giving breaks to vendors. checking garbage isn't getting too full and picking up any trash laying around.
Tasks to Choose from: Train Conductor - Must be safe over 16 and personable with guests. We do have a microphone we would like the train conductor
to use for announcing some displays or vendors as they drive past. A basic script and hat will be provided.
Train Attendees- We need 2-3 people to help open and close doors from all passengers on the train.


Tear Down: Sunday December 8th Anytime between 9am-5pm. We need about 50 people.
Details: Well, what goes up must come down! Pizza party to follow!
Needs: We can always use storage totes or tree bags! Any size!
