While prom seems far away, the Linn-Mar Post Prom committee has already begun planning the 2020 post prom event. Post prom provides a safe, alcohol and drug-free after prom experience, the intent of which is to keep all students safe on prom night. This year’s post prom will be held on May 18-19th from 11:30 pm until 4:00 am at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena. Post prom is FREE to students and all juniors and seniors (and their guests) are invited to attend, whether or not they choose to attend prom. The evening will consist of food, games, ice skating, broomball, a hypnotist, and prizes! Raffle prizes are given out throughout the evening, so students who arrive early will have more chances to win, and grand prizes are awarded at the end of the event. You must be present to win the grand prizes, which encourages students to remain at post prom until morning, after which they can return home safely. Last year, we hosted over 800 students at this fun-filled event.
As you can guess, hosting an event of this size is expensive. The main funding source of funds needed to host such a large event is donations from businesses and parents. To supplement donations, the post prom committee members also work University of Iowa concessions at various sporting events.
This year, we would love it if you would join us in working concessions at one of the following University of Iowa events:
Men’s Basketball
Thursday, February 20 (game at 6:00 pm, report time is 3:30 pm)
Saturday, February 29 (game at 11:00 am, report time is 8:30 am)
Tuesday, March 3 (game at 8:00 pm, report time is 5:30 pm)
Women's Basketball
Thursday, 2/27 (game time TBA)
In the past couple of years, Kohl's employees have chosen to help with set up of our event which has been extremely helpful. In addition to the extra hands, having Kohl's volunteers the past few years has allowed us to provide a $500 scholarship grand prize, which is much sought after by the students. Last year, we labeled the scholarship the "Kohl's Cares Scholarship" and included that this would not be possible without the volunteers from Kohl's and the grant program.
Thank you for your support! We look forward to volunteering with you!
