Saturday, October 12, 2024, will be the 10th Anniversary of Pink Lady Walk's Annual 5K Run/Walk charity event! Pink Lady Walk promotes breast cancer awareness and education, but the primary focus is raising funds to help survivors with unexpected expenses associated with a breast cancer diagnosis. Our mission is simple, to help alleviate some of the financial burdens caused by breast cancer.

For a decade, we have been committed to bringing awareness and educating our community on the importance of screenings and prevention methods, and providing support for breast cancer survivors. According to statistics breast cancer is the most common cancer and the leading cause of cancer death in women. Statistics also show that breast cancer is the leading cause of death among African Americans.

Individuals often struggle to pay for their basic living expenses and the unexpected costs associated with a breast cancer diagnosis. In these trying times, they should solely focus on their recovery and treatment while we help relieve some of their financial stress and worries. Pink Lady Walk’s financial assistance programs aim to help alleviate some of the financial burdens caused by this dreadful disease.

Since 2014, we have raised funds for 18 breast cancer survivors, a child with cancer, Hospice of Limestone County, Alabama, The Southern Cancer Center of Huntsville, Alabama, and the Joy to Life Foundation in Montgomery, Alabama. In addition, we pay accounts at local pharmacies and provide emergency donations to individuals facing economic hardships due to a breast cancer diagnosis.

The Bill Direct program will pay any bill up to $300 for someone facing an economic hardship due to a breast cancer diagnosis. The payment is made directly to the creditor. The Recipient Direct program will make payments to chosen individuals, who have a new or reoccurring breast cancer diagnosis, and to organizations that provide breast cancer services to the community. Each chosen recipient will receive $1500.00 for their unique needs, and the Prescription Direct program will credit $250.00 to patients’ accounts at local pharmacies.

We're looking for skilled coders and programmers to help us make our arduino based water kits more robust.

Every season we challenge students, educators, and every day citizens to help advance the kit and the understanding of the process. We have a few advanced coding & programming based challenges that we could use help on!

Currently the kits run the electrocoagulation/electrolysis process and we want to add methods for logging data so we can share results on different water samples with the global community.

Volunteer as a Race Marshall or to help with the Water Station.

Race Marshalls/Cheering Station: NCMEC is required to have a race marshall at every point of entrance to Fairfax Corner. These race marshalls have the important role of keeping runners along the route while also providing encouragement through cheering, holding signs, etc.

Water Station: Volunteers are needed to set up, manage, and take down the water station. Volunteers will distribute water to runners and provide additional encouragement through cheering, noise-makers, etc. We encourage you to bring signs, music, and whatever else you think would be fun and encouraging.
