WHAT: Volunteer for the 29th annual Swim A Mile/Move A Mile for Women with Cancer!WHEN: Saturday & Sunday, May 11 & May 12, 2024 from 9am to 3pm each day (volunteer shifts are 4 hours long, morning or afternoon shifts available)
WHERE: Mills College at Northeastern University's Pool, 5000 Macarthur Blvd. Oakland, CA
WHY: Show your love for women with cancer at WCRC's Swim A Mile/Move A Mile event! Join us for the pool party in the East Bay and WCRC's biggest fundraiser! This event is possible only with the invaluable service of volunteers, who, year after year, have made this an amazingly successful event. Raise your voice and shake a noisemaker for the water-walkers, swimmers, joggers, walkers, hikers, bikers, friends and family, all who come out to support those in our community affected by cancer.
As a volunteer, you can groove to the tunes spun by our incredible DJ, indulge in delicious homemade food and drinks, and cheer on all of the participants. Most of all, you are giving to the community and helping to make possible the life-changing and life-affirming programs and resources provided by the Women's Cancer Resource Center (WCRC) www.wcrc.org.
The event benefits WCRC, a local community-based non-profit which has always provided FREE programs and services to women and their loved ones who are affected by a cancer diagnosis.
We are seeking volunteer teams to support the event by helping participants keep track of their swum laps (a total of 72 to complete one mile!) by simply filling in a provided tally tracker for the swimmers in their designated lane. No experience or training necessary The bonus assignment is cheering on the swimmers and celebrating with them when they are done!

The youth summer programs allow kids to step out of their comfort zones, meet new people, and foster friendships that often last a lifetime. By interacting with a diverse group of peers, kids learn essential skills like communication and cooperation. We believe all children will get the opportunity to try new things, make new friends, and learn about themselves. All of these are crucial to developing self-esteem and confidence. Allowing our youth the opportunity to fellowship and build positive, healthy relationships with others is also a good thing to do. With many hands and loving hearts involved, we can help make a difference.Available Shifts

As a Hmong women’s organization, HAWA dreamed of creating a celebratory space for API women in Milwaukee to connect and learn about their democratic power, and why our presence, our issues, and our vote matters. This year, on Saturday May 18, 2024, we hope to reach 300 API community women to celebrate and learn with us at the Bradley Pavilion. 2024 is a critical year for us as Asian and Pacific Islander women, and Queer-fem women. Our local, state and federal election this year is going to drastically impact us and our communities right here in Milwaukee. It is crucial for us to learn about what elections mean for us, how policy will decide how our communities navigate resources, and hear from each other about what issues impact us. We want to be able to do this, while also convening in a celebratory way because as API women, we deserve joy and celebration.Available Shifts

The Associazione Banco Alimentare della Toscana (Tuscany’s regional food bank), which is part of the larger Italian national network of the “Fondazione Banco Alimentare”, provides nutritional support to those in need. Its mission is best expressed by the motto "combat waste and combat hunger". The important work carried out by the Banco Alimentare benefits four key areas:Social: perfectly good food, which may otherwise be discarded, is gathered via different channels and given a "second life" by the redistribution to 550 accredited charitable organizations which, in turn, reallocates the food items, at no cost, to over 125,000 disadvantaged individuals throughout the region.
Economical: the redistribution of good food adds new economic value.
Environmental: the recovery of food avoids its waste, leading to savings in energy resources as well as the recycling of packaging.
Educational: since its origins, “in sharing community needs, the meaning of life is shared" has been at the center of the Banco’s actions.
The Banco Alimentare warmly invites company employees to join the Banco’s team as active volunteers to assist with the unpacking, sorting and repacking of food items arriving and/or departing from its warehouse. Participating volunteers can provide their service for either full or half days (mornings only) during company hours from Monday through Friday. The Banco’s warehouse is headquartered c/o Centro Alimentare Polivalente in Piazza Artom 12, Florence.
