Opportunity Details

We are looking for someone with an accounting or bookkeeping financial background (preferably a CPA but not required), who is familiar with Quickbooks and with charitable reporting in Canada, and who lives in Barrie, Ontario (or is able to travel to Barrie on a monthly basis) to serve as a volunteer Treasurer on our Board of Directors. The commitment would be between 2-3 hours per month and will include duties such as: meeting with our Administrator in Barrie for monthly cheque signings and signing off on expenses, submission of payroll through ADP (bi-weekly), updating cash flow, reviewing bank statements, reconciling quarterly reports, providing reports to the Board, attending Board Meetings (5 per year, can call in via teleconference), processing HST return and charitable return (annually). Please note as items come up or requests for cash flow updates are given, extra hours may be needed.

Opportunity Details

The Polar Plunge is a fun way to raise money for Special Olympics Michigan as participants jump into a freezing pool. Each participant raises money individually or with a team. The purpose of the Area 17 Polar Plunge is to raise funding for local athletes in Van Buren, Berrien, and Cass counties. Your support will allow them to participate in year-round training and competition at no cost to them or their families. The event will be held at Watermark Brewing on January 26, 2019.

Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG) is a state-based national nonprofit organization dedicated to reaching out to young people at risk of dropping out and assisting in overcoming serious barriers such as poverty, basic skills deficiency, living in foster care, and many others. Since 2007, EmployIndy has managed all Indianapolis JAG programs and now offers programming to 15 different schools throughout the city.

Each year, EmployIndy holds the regional Career Development Conference (CDC) for JAG students from all over Marion County. On February 7th, 2019, JAG students will compete in a variety of competitions to demonstrate their employability skills, understanding of the workforce, and professionalism. Students who participate in the CDC will be required to dress in business professional clothing, which is provided to participants through JAG and EmployIndy. For the past nine years, professional clothing was purchased from Kohl’s, spending over $11,000 for student competition outfits. With such a wide variety of affordable professional attire and accessible and inviting atmosphere for youth and young adults getting their start in the workforce, Kohls’ is an ideal partner for the CDC. Volunteer opportunities will be available at each JAG participating high school in Marion County the month before the conference. Volunteers will give a presentation on the best ways to dress and look professional for interviews, internships, jobs, and conferences. Volunteers have the opportunity to present at the JAG high school of their choice (first come, first served) and volunteer hours will be flexible. There will also be two additional volunteer positions to judge the CDC on February 7, 2019.

Share HOPE with thousands of mini-Hope Heroes recently impacted by Hurricane Michael! The Happy Hope Factory is teaming up with United Way in Tallahassee, FL to deliver special Happy Hope Bags to children in Florida communities affected by the recent storm. Teams are needed over the next four weeks to assemble, pack and ship up to 5,000 Happy Hope Bags. Hope Boxes contain all components required to assemble 25 Happy Hope Bags, and a prepaid UPS label will be included to ship completed boxes directly to the United Way’s distribution center.
