The lack of quality learning experiences can limit a child’s future potential, especially those who are most vulnerable — the children of ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) and poverty-level families already struggling to afford the basics. By providing early literacy opportunities, we can help promote academic readiness. And when children show up ready to learn, it sets up a solid foundation for future success in both school and life.

By volunteering with United Way of Northern New Jersey as a Book Buddy, you can share your love of books and reading while making an impact in the lives of children throughout our region.

As a Book Buddy, you will record yourself reading a children's book. Recordings will then be made available to our nonprofit partners, local preschools, Head Start programs, family care providers, child care centers and ALICE families. Volunteers of all ages can participate.

For information, contact Lisa.Galonardo@UnitedWayNNJ.org.

On behalf of the State of the Youth Conference, the Changing Lives Association, and Music Changing Lives, we're looking for volunteers to help with support during the Conference.

Volunteers would assist us with a select group of 100 young leaders on a journey to alter the trajectory of their communities forever.

Through the State of Youth Conference, we aim to empower community youth (13-34 years) by teaching them how to become civically engaged in advocacy and how to create action against the most pressing issues they care most about in their communities today.

During this conference, we will focus our attention, voice and vision to create solutions. The ultimate goal is to create real change and impact, driven by youth, across the Inland Empire and Los Angeles Counties, then expand throughout Southern and Northern California with partnerships like the California Endowment, California Art Council, Sister Making A Difference JessBeU, and many others.
