Opportunity Details

Rough Rider Roundup is an inclusive, family-friendly Western-themed event designed for the special needs community of Shasta County and the surrounding area. Our hope is to provide a day of fun for individuals with disabilities and their families. Volunteers will help ensure that this inaugural event is a comfortable, safe, and engaging experience for the special needs community and their supporters. Please join us to help make Rough Rider Roundup a success event for years to come!

Rough Rider Roundup incorporates Western heritage and rodeo-type events into adaptable and accessible activities for children and adults of all ages and abilities. The event provides an active outlet for those with special needs, encourages interactive play between children and adults with special needs and those without, and brings families together for a celebration of Western fun. The inaugural event is free and hosted by Roughout Ranch Foundation Inc., a 501(c)3 nonprofit public service organization.

There is an urgent need for accessible programs benefiting children and promoting families in Shasta County. Rough Rider Roundup’s free admission will make it accessible to children and families at all socioeconomic levels, including children and families with low income or at or below the poverty level. Rough Rider Roundup is unique in its inclusive and integrative approach. Rough Rider Roundup will provide activities that can be enjoyed by all people regardless of age, disability status, or neurodiversity. In other words, Rough Rider Roundup will seek to bring people with special needs and their allies together, allowing them to participate simultaneously in rodeo-themed activities. Northern California organizations serving people with special needs provide a plethora of support groups and small gathering opportunities, but most lack the space and equipment necessary to offer physically-engaging activities.
