To help deliver the range of group activities (exercise classes, arts and crafts, quizzes, etc) that we provide at Winchester Go LD every week. We are looking for volunteers who could commit to one session (1-2hr) per week or every fortnight. We have a strong focus on promoting wellbeing. Our groups are fun, sociable and engaging.

We are looking for friendly, fun and interesting volunteers.

Our regular groups are normally based in the Winchester Discovery Centre, however, during lockdown we have been running regular social groups online (Zoom).

Social engagement is hugely important in promoting positive wellbeing for adults with learning disabilities. Our members benefit from the strong sense of community and from a relaxed environment that they can share ideas and any worries.

We are looking for volunteers who can either commit to an hour or two a week for face to face activities, or those that would be happy to volunteer an hour a month/fortnight and to be be put rota. We have daytime, evening and Saturday sessions.

Our Walk and Talk service offers an hour's walk and a chat to adults with learning disabilities. The benefits are numerous: helping to engage our members with their local community, providing valuable physical exercise, being outside, providing time away from family carers and giving an opportunity to further their communication skills and social engagement.
Some members of Winchester Go LD prefer to chat over a cup of coffee, others prefer to spend their hour doing more of a powerwalk!

We are looking for volunteers to help us deliver this vital service. Whether you can give 1 hour a fortnight or 3 hours a week - we'd love to hear from you.

All volunteers for our Walk and Talk service will need to be DBS checked. Training is provided.

Host a fundraiser such as a virtual supply drive to raise funds for Science Club for Girls!

Each semester, SCFG runs FREE, hands-on Science Clubs for over 350 girls from underrepresented backgrounds in the Greater Boston area. We rely on companies, individuals, and foundations to support our mission financially so we can keep all our programs free and accessible to our community. Hosting a (virtual) fundraiser/ supply drive at your company is a great way to support our mission of inspiring the next generation of diverse girls and women to succeed in STEM education and careers!

SCFG staff can help set up your online fundraiser (including concrete examples of what your group will help fund, such as purchasing specific supplies for that semester's clubs) and if available, may speak to your group about our organization and its impact on the girls who participate.

“An estimated 13.5 million children in this country, or approximately 20% of U.S. children under age 18 years of age, have a special health care need” (National Survey of Children’s Health. (2020), leaving a lot of parents doubling as caregivers. Caring for oneself enables a parent to provide better care to the children who depend on them. Night Lights provides valuable time away so that parents can refuel and nurture an overall sense of wellbeing.

Night Lights provides respite care to families who have children (ages 4 weeks - 12 years) with special needs and their siblings (also ages 4 weeks to 12 years) at no cost to the families. Thanks to the generosity of the community, Night Lights has provided over 67,000 hours of free respite care to families of children with special needs and their neuro-typical siblings over the last ten years, a service that would cost the state over $1.2 million if Colorado were to provide respite vouchers for every family that Night Lights serves.

The Childcare Volunteer stays with the child throughout the evening during each month’s program, taking them from one activity to another. The purpose of this position is to provide a one-on-one care position between the child and the volunteer. This volunteer is expected to interact with the child with excitement, love and respect. The Childcare Volunteer will document the events of the evening in the child’s file, as well as communicate with the Leadership Team regarding any concerns or questions they have about the child. The volunteers are trained and background checked. No experience is necessary and this is not a therapy position of any sort. There is an onsite nurse to assist with all medical issues.
