Linn-Mar High School has made the decision to hold prom and post prom this year, limiting this event to seniors only and employing safety measures (such as required masks). The goal of Linn-Mar Post prom is to eliminate auto accidents and other negative consequences of potentially risky behavior on prom night. We do this by providing a safe, alcohol and drug-free event immediately following prom.

This year’s post prom will be held on May 15-16th from 11:30 pm until 4:00 am at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena. Post prom is FREE to students and all seniors (and their guests) are invited to attend, whether or not they choose to attend prom. The evening will consist of food, games (poker, deal or no deal, and more!), ice skating, broomball, a hypnotist, and prizes! Raffle prizes are given out throughout the evening, so students who arrive early will have more chances to win, and grand prizes are awarded at the end of the event. This encourages students to remain at post prom until morning, after which they can return home safely.

As you might guess, an event of this size requires many, many volunteers. The post prom committee of parents has been working on this year's event since we got word that the school would be having a prom. Many other parents will volunteer the night of the event in roles such as set-up, security, check-in, games, food, prizes, and clean-up.

Kohl's volunteers have become an integral part of this event. For the past few years, Kohl's employees have chosen to help with set up and have mainly been involved in setting up the prize tables. While the set up shift is earlier, Kohl's employees are also welcome to volunteer for any of the other roles listed. We do not expect Kohl's employees to fill all the attached roles, but have included them in case there are any night owls or people who would prefer to see post prom in action.

Setting up this event is always hectic, and the help of the Kohl’s volunteers has been much appreciated. In addition having Kohl's volunteers the past few years has allowed us to provide a $500 scholarship grand prize, which is much sought after by the students.

We will begin scheduling parent volunteers in a couple weeks. If you know when and where Kohl's volunteers would like to participate, even before you have all the volunteers, please let me know so that we do not fill those spots with parents. You can reach me at 319-213-7667 or PostPromLM@gmail.com.

Thank you again for your support! We look forward to volunteering with you!

Cathy Fitzsimmons
Linn Mar Post Prom Prize Chair

The Race Against Gun Violence (RAGV) celebrates the life-changing work of community organizations and provides a dynamic platform for people who care about ending gun violence to connect and get involved.

This year, the 8th Annual Race Against Gun Violence returns to Grant Park on September 23 after going virtual in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A virtual option will still be available to those who are unable to attend in person.

RAGV offers a one-of-a-kind opportunity to Choose Hope and join others who share the common vision of a Chicago free from the fear of gun violence. 100% of charitable contributions go directly to nonprofit organizations dedicated to ending gun violence.

We, The Redemption Project, are looking for individuals who will become Mentors and help equip an inmate with the skills they will need to succeed in the workplace prior to their release from prison.
We believe a significant reduction in recidivism will occur when those convicted of a crime are redeemed back into society and given a chance to become productive members of their communities through meaningful employment.
We partner with employers to provide individuals who are currently incarcerated with mentoring opportunities and meaningful employment upon release.
