The purpose of the Finance Committee is to oversee the incoming and outgoing expenses and financial interests for the operation of the agency. Volunteers must be familiar with the long range plan of the agency and its mission. They will also be working closely with the Events & Executive Committees in setting financial goals and preparation of the budget submissions to funding bodies. Budgets and ventures should be planned with that in mind and reflect a public image appropriate to Girls Inc. of Durham.

The Board of Directors represents the leaders of our agency and serves as a working board that oversees the long term strategic vision and overall health of the organization. Directors approve the organization’s philosophy and continually review the management’s performance while working toward agency goals. The Board of Directors will also annually review and approve plans for funding in view of organizational goals. Board members have a list of responsibilities that they renew every year during the annual election at our Annual General Meeting.

Volunteer two to three hours of your time to help out young moms in Durham Region by delivering free food bags. Food delivery days are every Tuesday, where volunteers meet up at our Ajax office around 12:00pm to pick up the food bags. Volunteers then deliver the food bags to pregnant/new moms, and their families in Durham.The Food '4' Thought program goal is to enhance maternal and fetal health by reducing the risks for pregnant women who may have food security issues. Women may come to a site any time during their pregnancy and continue to receive support until their infants are 6 months of age. The program focuses on nutrition so as to reduce the incidence of low birth weight, increase the number of breastfeeding mothers, provide linkages to other community services and improve the health and well-being of moms.

Impact & goal of The Higher Foundation:The Higher Foundation promotes post-secondary education by providing financial assistance to Georgia college students. We help Collegiate Georgians cover their cost of living expenses with our need-based grants and merit-based scholarships. Since May 2018, we have served over 1,000 Georgia college students and awarded nearly $40,000 in grants & scholarships. With our services, we aim to help Georgia college students overcome post-secondary educational attainment barriers, so they can go higher in their education and career.
Main tasks:
Marketing is one of our organization’s strongest pillars. To keep it strong, we need help from Higher Creatives who love our mission and branding. If you have a passion for photography, videography, social media, or graphic design and you can volunteer with us for a maximum of 5 hours weekly, please apply to join our team as a Higher Creative.
Photography: Our photography needs are taking event photos, editing photos, and providing other photography services per request. Freelance photographers and those who have a hobby in photography are encouraged to apply. Some photography opportunities will require travel in the Atlanta metropolitan area. We will provide a gas stipend of $20 up to one time per week when requested.
Videography: Our videography needs are recording videos, editing videos, and providing other videography services per request. To help our Higher Students go higher in their education and career, in addition to providing them with financial assistance, we also offer them college and career mentorship. We pair our Higher Students with a Higher Mentor who has successfully gone higher in their college and career field. If you are willing to be a mentor and a role model to our Higher Students, we welcome you to join our Higher Mentor network. Once you are paired with a Higher Student, you and the student will work together independently with semesterly Higher Foundation check-ins. The maximum time commitment as a Higher Mentor is 5 hours per week for one academic year.

Summer Bowl for Kids Sake is Big Brothers Big Sisters second largest annual fundraiser, bringing roughly 3000 people, 50+ corporate companies together at Park Lanes in Shawnee, KS. Teams of 6 will select one day that works best for them between July 10-26! At this event, Big Brothers Big Sisters Kansas City is working to defend the potential of the next generation of Kansas City leaders, college graduates, and entrepreneurs. Right now, over 200 kids in KC are waiting for a Big. At each of our bowling sessions, we provide bowlers with fun prizes every time they get a strike! CodePath Mock Technical Interview Week (August 12th-15th) helps underrepresented CS students to practice their technical interview skills in Java, Python or C++ with an experienced engineer in a live Zoom session and gain feedback for improvement.Time Commitment:
