The Heart of Illinois CHD Walk is an outdoor walking event to celebrate the heart heroes in our community and to raise awareness and funds to empower their families as well as the children and adults living with congenital heart defects.

The event is a fun, uplifting, family-oriented, non-competitive walk. The walk is a great way to rally your co-workers, friends, family, and community groups together to unite in a mission for a life-saving cause!

1 in 100 babies are diagnosed with a congenital heart defect which require specialized care! Proceeds from the 2024 CHD Walk will benefit the OSF Children's Hospital of Illinois Congenital Heart Center, supporting patients and families through education, programs and events.

Please sign up to volunteer for a great event!

Are you a dog lover with room in your home to look after a dog during evenings and weekends? This could be the perfect role for you!

As a Foster for Canine Companions, you’ll be giving a dog in training a loving home while they embark on their journey to become a service dog. You’ll get to see the progress your furry companion is making in their training and be a vital part of their journey, without the commitment of looking after a dog full time. All dogs in professional training are either Labradors, Golden Retrievers, or a mix of these breeds, and they are all over 1.5 years old.

Dogs will either need to be dropped off/picked up at the training location in SODO Seattle or talk to us about ridesharing or picking up/dropping off at a central location closer to you. All food, medical care, and resources are supplied to you as the foster.

Q: I have existing pets in my home. Can I still foster?
A: Yes, as long as your pets are friendly and get along with other animals

Q: I have small children in the home. Can I still foster?
A: Yes, the service dogs in professional training are well-behaved and have been socialized to children of all ages

Q: Do I need to know how to train a dog to foster?
A: No, all the training will be done by professional trainers while the dog is at the Puget Sound Field Office.

If you don’t feel you tick every box but are sure this role is the one for you, we’d love to hear from you! We’re always open to suggestions and are very happy to chat with you to find out what’s possible, so please just get in touch at seattleprogram@canine.org. Picking up from work locations throughout King County may be available.

Navigating the traffic, streets, and highways of an unknown city can be daunting. Imagine spending most of your time driving on country roads and the streets of small towns. In contrast, St. Louis roads-like all major cities-can be confusing, stressful, and jam-packed with traffic. Patients visiting St. Louis for medical treatment may be overwhelmed simply by navigating to their appointments.

That's why HavenHouse provides roundtrip shuttle service for patients and their families to and from local medical facilities seven days a week and up to three routes a day.

Driving the HavenHouse Shuttle means you have the opportunity to change lives. Your help will alleviate the stress and worry our guests may encounter on their medical journey. You can be their navigator in an unfamiliar place. If you're looking for an interactive experience where you get to meet and chat with wonderful people, this is the best opportunity for HavenHouse volunteers!

Shuttle Volunteers drive HavenHouse vehicles from our location to various medical facilities in and around St. Louis. Our Volunteers can choose to drive a single route once a week or as many routes multiple days a week as they are comfortable.
