Project Overview

We invite BMO employees to join us at MONOVA: Museum & Archives of North Vancouver for a hands-on volunteer opportunity supporting our Wool Weaving Program: an initiative designed to educate youth and local community members about the history and ongoing revitalization of traditional Coast Salish Wool Weaving.

Volunteers will assist with assembling wool weaving kits that will be utilized for school groups as part of MONOVA’s fall educational programming. These kits provide tangible, culturally respectful ways for students to engage with Coast Salish artistry, oral storytelling, and community tradition throughout the academic year. This in-person volunteer opportunity will enable BMO to support MONOVA in our mission to create engaging and educational experiences to reflect on our past, understand our present, and build our future together.

This project is part of a larger celebration within MONOVA that honours the resurgence of wool weaving within the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh and səl̓ílwətaɬ First Nations. It is designed in consultation with Indigenous educators and knowledge keepers. Striving to connect the stories of North Vancouver’s past, present, and future, MONOVA aims to foster dialogue, deepen understanding, and reflect the diversity of the lands on which we operate. BMO employees will support the hands-on side of this work, supporting Indigenous-led knowledge sharing and youth cultural education in a direct and impactful way.

Volunteer Date & Details
Date: Wednesday, August 20, 2025 Shift Options:
Shift 1: 10 AM – 12 PM
Shift 2: 2 PM - 4 PM
Number of Volunteers: Up to 30 BMO employees total (15 per shift)
Location: 115 West Esplanade, North Vancouver, BC (Fully accessible venue; nearby parking and transit options available)

- Organizing and sorting wool and weaving supplies
- Assembling and packaging education kits
- Labelling and preparing kits for distribution
- Light inventory tracking
- Orientation will be provided at the start of each shift

Budget Request
We respectfully request $1,500 in project funding to directly support the quality and integrity of the cultural education kits delivered to North Van students. Funding will be used to:
- Purchase wool and packaging materials
- Print instructional and cultural context sheets
- Cover supply and logistical support costs
- Provide honoraria to Indigenous advisors who have contributed to kit development

This funding will directly support MONOVA’s ability to deliver culturally respectful teachings and programming to schools across North Vancouver during the 2025-2026 academic year, extending the impact of BMO’s support beyond this one-day event. With BMO’s support, we can bring to life the powerful stories of the Coast Salish people through high-quality programs. Thank you for considering our application. We look forward to the opportunity to collaborate with BMO to deliver meaningful, community-driven volunteerism.

Warmly,
Emmanuela Droko

• quello dell’accompagnamento sociale, tramite il Centro d’Ascolto e i progetti di accoglienza;
• quello della formazione, dell’orientamento al lavoro e all’auto impresa acquisito dal nostro sportello lavoro
• quello del welfare culturale, sviluppato negli ultimi due anni;

2. Mobilize resources and community support.
3. Assist in construction and school outreach.
4. Promote health, dignity, and education for all.

Pupils from the school supported through your efforts will perform a special song mentioning your name, as a heartfelt expression of gratitude.

Our Impact:

Helpers Social Development Foundation is making a meaningful difference in the lives of children, women, and underserved communities across Enugu State. With the support of our partners and donors, we have achieved the following:

1. Built Sanitary Facilities in Public Schools
We have constructed safe and girl-friendly toilet facilities in public schools previously practicing open defecation—promoting hygiene, dignity, and school attendance.

2. Constructed Solar-Powered Clean Water Projects
Delivered access to safe, clean water by installing solar-powered boreholes in rural communities with no existing water infrastructure.

3. Distributed Solar Lanterns to Rural Women
Provided solar-powered lanterns to women living in off-grid areas to improve household safety, productivity, and children’s ability to study at night.

3. Ongoing Community Interventions
Through collaboration with local and international partners, we continue to implement a range of interventions focused on education, health, clean energy, and economic empowerment.
