Opportunity Details

Washington Elementary will be having its 6th Annual Timberwolf Trot on April 27th. This event gives all Washington students, grades 4K-5th, the opportunity to learn about nutrition and exercise while participating in a fundraising fun run. Students work to collect donations for the run which fosters community and school connections. This fun run is one part of our annual High Interest Day. It takes nearly 100 volunteers to run this fundraiser and exciting daylong event. High Interest Day focuses on hands on learnign and extended educational opportunities that happen outside traditional classroom models.
Funds raised in 2018 will be used to support continued enhancements to our, Makers’ Space, an innovative STEM lab. All Washington students are able to utilize the lab to further investigate science curriculum with imagination, creation, invention, design and construction of their ideas. Additionally, money raised will help support school-wide technology enhancements as well as flexible seating that will benefit all Washington students and staff.

O’Donnell & Friends Charities is an all-volunteer public nonprofit organization that is committed to the improvement of lives in the Greater Des Moines Area by raising funds for demonstrated needs of charitable organizations through the spirit of giving. To date, O’Donnell & Friends has raised more than $1.1 million for various Des Moines Area charities.

On Saturday, March 3, 2018, O’Donnell & Friends Charities will host a silent auction at Toad Valley Golf Course in Pleasant Hill, Iowa. Proceeds raised during this event will be used to establish the Dan & Dee O’Donnell Memorial Scholarship and support Community Youth Concepts, the selected charity for the O’Donnell & Friends Open. Community Youth Concepts has a mission to ensure all Iowa youth have access to high-quality opportunities that prepare them for success in school, work, and life. The Dan & Dee O'Donnell Memorial Scholarship will provide funds to assist graduating high school seniors who have demonstrated community betterment an opportunity to attend college who might otherwise not be able to.
