Our incredible volunteers contribute more than ten million hours to guiding every year. Some give us a couple of hours here and there – helping out with driving for trips and holidays, fundraising and events planning, or even doing the annual accounts for local groups. Others give their time as Leaders or Assistant Leaders for units, providing girls and young women with a space where they can be themselves. Whatever your skills and interests, and no matter how much time you have to spare, one of our volunteering roles is bound to suit you.

What does sponsoring dinner do for the families of the Center?

Sponsoring and serving dinner will be a special experience. Food joins the masses and brings people together during difficult times. You and your group will have the opportunity to unite and comfort grieving families while serving a meal.

To view all available dates and to sign up, visit our website at: http://cbcst.org/how-you-can-help/potluck-partners/

It only takes a little over an hour to make a difference. From 5:30pm – 7:30pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays and from 12:30pm - 2:15pm on Sundays. Please note, the above times are an approximation. On Monday thru Thursday evenings, families eat from 6:30pm-7:30pm (please arrive no later than 6:00pm). On Sundays, families eat from 1:30pm-2:00pm (please arrive no later than 1:00pm). Arrival time may vary depending on how much preparation is needed.

What will I have to do?

A Potluck Partner sponsors, serves and oversees potluck dinners which precede the support group program each night by carrying out the following tasks:
•Set up the kitchen before 6:30pm with food, plates, napkins, silverware, cups and drinks
•Greet the families and serve dinner (families eat from 6:30pm-7:00pm)
•Clean the kitchen and dining room after the meal & start the dishwashers (2)
•Dispose of trash in the outside dumpster

What should I serve?

Dinners can range from pizza to tacos to casseroles. Please do not serve anything with peanuts or peanut butter due to allergies. It is totally up to you or your group. Just remember your dinner will serve children (ages 6-17) and adults.

How many families should I plan to serve?

With each group night the number of families varies, but most potluck partners plan to serve 50 – 60 people.

The Center provides the following items:

•Cups, plates, napkins and utensils
•Coffee, lemonade & tea mix, water and pitchers
•Oven and microwave

Membership on the Board of Director is a three year term. Board Meetings are held quarterly. The annual meeting and retreat occurs in October. These meetings are generally held during working hours. There is also a strategic planning retreat once each year. Board members are expected to attend all four meetings and participate in board committees, which could meet as much as once per month. Meeting places vary across the state.

1. Basic Responsibilities:

• Guide the Organization’s Mission and Purpose. Board members articulate the organization’s mission statement and ensure that decisions are made in accordance with that mission. Board Members understand and support the mission.

• Select the President/Executive Director and Review Performance. Board Members reach consensus on the job description of the President (Chief Executive) and decide upon periodic evaluation of his or her performance, although this may be delegated to the Executive Committee.

• Ensure Effective Organizational Planning. Board Members participate in the overall planning process and assist in implementing the organization’s goals.

• Be Actively Involved in Board Operations.

• Board members will attend at least 50% of the board meetings each year.
• Board members will participate in at least one board committee.
• If they have not previously served as a company advisor, speaker or judge, Board members will commit to doing at least one of these within the first year as a Board member.

• Ensure Adequate Resources. Board members work in partnership with the Vice Chair of Development and staff to identify funding leads, solidify funding relationships, assist in securing funds, and develop funding proposals.

• Each board member will make a personal financial contribution annually.
• Each board member will participate in and support board approved special events.

• Manage Resources Effectively. Board Members are accountable in developing an annual budget and ensuring that proper financial controls are in place.

• Determine and Monitor the Organization’s Programs: Board Members determine which programs are most consistent with the organization’s mission and monitor their effectiveness.

• Establish the Bylaws, Rules and Procedures for the Foundation. Board Members regularly review all Foundation governing documents to ascertain they reflect the current operations of the Foundation and its programs.

• Enhance the Organization’s Public Image.

• Board Members garner support from important members of the community. They must clearly articulate the organization’s mission, accomplishments and goals to the public.

• Each Board member will serve as an active liaison with their business/organization to strengthen the relationship with Business Week so contributions (volunteers & money) are maintained and, if possible, increased.

• Assess its Own Performance. Board Members periodically self-assess the board’s achievements and develop plans for areas of improvement.

2. Authority: Within the limits of the bylaws and policies, only the Board of Directors has authority for the following.

• The power to purchase, sell, hold, lease, mortgage or exchange real estate or personal property required for conducting the affairs of the Foundation.

• The power to authorize the soliciting of funds, to incur debts, borrow money, and to pledge the credit of the Foundation in order to expedite or finance the activities designed to carry out the objectives of the Foundation.

• Approve the Nominating Committee report which advances a slate of officers and candidates for Board of Director appointments and ratifies their elections.

We have several volunteer opportunities available at this time. In the barn, helping with cleaning, feeding and grooming (no experience required if you want to learn) as well as volunteers to help with fundraising and marketing.
The animals need care every day. Every volunteer adds to our ability to do more for them. Barn chores offer healthy exercise outdoors, interaction with a variety of animals and improving the lives of formerly at-risk equines.
Your help with marketing and sharing information on what we offer would be huge step forward for us.
Are you great at fundraising? We can always use your input and ideas!
