MetroED is the largest Career Technical Education (CTE) center in Northern California, serving high school and adult students from throughout Santa Clara Valley. MetroED has existed in various forms for over 100 years, setting young adults on the path to success whether they go on to college or directly into a career. The Foundation seeks to enhance the great work done at MetroED by partnering with the community and industry to provide the time, talent, and treasure needed to meet its unique challenges in creating the essential workers of tomorrow. Opportunities on the board span the entire range from volunteers on specific projects to fund and distribute scholarships, to director positions who define and drive new initiatives, to officer positions who run the board's operations and define long-term strategies. Time commitments can range from a couple hours a month to a couple hours a day depending on where you fit best!

Mentor Role & Goal:
Supporting mentees with job searches, application process and workplace development skills taught through our 21st Century Workplace Skills training program. Empowering mentees to set and achieve both short and long-term employment and learning goals.
Listening to mentee’s employment and education concerns and supporting them to consider their options and utilise new opportunities.
Using professional knowledge to advise and offer support with job searches, applications, CVs and interview practice.
Working with and referring to LPPI’s Employment Project Coordinator to ensure that mentees are fully supported in line with LPPI’s Safeguarding Policy.

Qualifications:
Private/ Public Sector Professional and/or Entrepreneur
Willingness to provide emotional, social, and practical support within limits.
Knowledge of one’s boundaries and ability to set limits with others.
Recognition that all people have strengths and they need to discover and use them.
Completed background check and training.

Supervision/Training:
Supervision/training groups provided by the Employment Project Coordinator.
1-to-1 meetings with Employment Project Coordinator as is necessary/ required.

Time Commitment:
Weekly/ biweekly/ monthly mentor meetings between November 2021 to September 2022
Minimum commitment of 2 hours mentoring a month.
In-person/Phone/Video call contact within reason.

The Muscular Dystrophy Association's Muscle Walk of Dallas is happening on 11/6/21 at Doubletree Ranch Park in Highland Village, TX from 9:30 AM – 11:30 AM and we would love to have your support as volunteers!

Volunteers are essential to MDA’s mission of transforming the lives of people living with muscular dystrophy, ALS, and related neuromuscular diseases. We are excited to host the Muscle Walk of Dallas Celebration to bring our MDA community together to raise funds to further our mission. We are looking for a group of committed volunteers to assist MDA Staff with day of event logistics via 2 shifts.

Shift 1 (8:00 AM – 10:30 AM)
Tasks: Unloading the rental van, walk route and event space set up, inflatable arch set up, registration set up and implementation, greeting attendees, photography, hosting the Camper art station and more.

Shift 2 (10:30 AM – 1:00 PM)
Tasks: Help with breakdown of event tables, chairs & inflatable arch, clean-up of event site and walk route, packing of signage/décor into the loading van, and other tasks as needed.

Opportunity Details

Gateway Association believes in transformation of community through the lens of disability. The different angles of community represented by those in the marketing and communications sector are pivotal to Gateway’s messaging. We are specifically looking for board members to join our values-based, 46-year-old board in the area of marketing and communications. A good match would be someone who lives equity, diversity and inclusion in their personal and professional lives. A background in mentorship, innovative thinking and board experience is necessary for a sustainable, long-term relationship with Gateway. Covid has eliminated the need for board members to be physically present at the meetings. Gateway headquarters is in Edmonton and meetings occur between 7-9 times per year.

A marketing and communications portfolio will be co-developed with the board member, along with assignation to a sub-committee (staff and volunteers) with the same portfolio. We are looking for a board member to bring in expertise, strategic support and the gift of time (2-5 hours per month).

Role Summary:

Education Required:
Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, English or related field.
