Overview

We are seeking a diverse pool of potential members of the Board of Trustees of the African University Foundation, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization based in Indianapolis, Indiana. African University Foundation is strengthening its Board of Trustees to provide effective leadership to realize the first phase of African University in Tali, Southwest Region, Cameroon. We expect potential board members to have some familiarity with any of the following: governance, fundraising, finance, or communications.

African University Foundation provides a unique opportunity for volunteers to make a difference in realizing phase one of African University and transforming the lives of the students who will be enrolled in the new institution. African University will inspire faculty and students to dream of a new world and find real solutions to real-world problems. It will cultivate leaders as change agents for good in society. African University will produce critical thinkers and problem solvers who can enhance Africa’s capacity to develop relevant solutions to the problems in Africa. The initiative began with a significant land grant by community elders in Tali for the purpose of building the new university. Since then, we have surveyed the land and empowered women through training in microbusiness, health, and micro agriculture. We have also conducted a community health baseline survey and development seminars for the community. We have used local labor and professional services for these efforts. We are currently completing construction on a 12,000 square feet University multipurpose building in Tali. In 2023, we plan to implement a community microfinance program to promote economic and agricultural development in Tali and complete planning for a farm on the African University site.

This has been a fascinating journey, and we are so proud of the progress being made on the ground in Tali.
