Opportunity Details

Our Women Build program recruits, educates and nurtures women to build – and advocate for – affordable housing in our community. With this goal in mind, the Women Build program brings together women from all walks of life to not only volunteer on the construction of Habitat homes, but to also fundraise to make the home building process even possible. In Lawrence, our Women Build program has sponsored six homes with a seventh home being started this Fall for Haley, a single mother and her four children.

Your support of our Women Build Happy Hour event will help Haley achieve her dream of home ownership. Funds raised through our event will go directly to building Haley and her family a safe, affordable house in our community.

Our Happy Hour event includes a bid board and silent auction, live music, food and beverages, revenue enhancers and our 2020 Women Build calendar release. Please consider joining us on Friday, September 27, 2019, 7-10pm at Maceli’s, Lawrence, Kansas for a great event!

Habitat for Humanity seeks volunteers to help build homes for people in need.
How does it work?
Through volunteer labor and donations of money and materials, Houston County Habitat builds simple, decent houses with the help of the homeowner (partner) families. Habitat houses are sold to partner families at no profit, financed with affordable, no-interest loans. The homeowners' monthly mortgage payments are used to build even more Habitat houses. Houston County Habitat provides a hand-up, not a hand-out. In addition to a down payment and the monthly mortgage payments, partner families invest hundreds of hours of their own labor - called sweat equity - into building their Habitat house and the houses of others.
Requirements:
No previous experiences is required, just willingness to learn and work hard. We provide all the tools and equipment.
All volunteers must be at least 16 years of age to work on the construction sites and 14 years of age in the ReStore.
All volunteers must complete this information and the Waiver and Release of Liability Form.
Minors must have a parent or guardian sign the Waiver and Release of Liability Form and bring it to the construction site or ReStore on their volunteer day.

What to Bring to the Construction Site and Restore:
Sturdy, closed toed shoes (required)
Sunscreen, hat and glasses (optional)
