Catholic Guardian Services operates one of our homes for aging and severely developmentally disabled people at 1841 Lacombe Avenue in the Bronx. 16 individuals live in this home. While we have been able to do extensive renovation inside the home, our State rates, which have not been raised in over seven years, do not allow us to update the garden area in front of and on the side of the home. This includes weeding and preparing a vegetable garden area that our individuals with their staff will work on throughout the spring and summer months. In addition we would like flowers planted in front of the home which will create a more homelike environment for the people who live in the home. So we need volunteers to clean up the front and side garden areas and plant flowers and prepare the vegetable garden for planting. We strive to make all of our homes as warm and inviting as possible for the people who live there and this would go a long way towards making that possible. We will provide lunch for the volunteers in our home.Available Shifts

At the All Stars, we prepare inner-city young people to navigate new environments and to step outside their comfort zones. They play a key role in every event and activity we run – being spokespeople and hosts at our leading events, including our major galas, luncheons, and corporate events. At these events, they do new and uncomfortable things, like mixing and mingling, sitting at a table and creating conversations with our guests. We prepare young people to do this at our volunteer Host Trainings. In this Viacommunity Day project, you will learn more about All Stars and our approach, and work with an All Stars program manager to lead a Host Training for our young people. You’ll work with our students to practice their networking skills. The format will include improvisation, role playing, scene work, and practice creating conversations! An interest in supporting the growth of young people, and a friendliness and willingness to use tools of performance – including improvisation, skits, and scene work – to train our students on networking!
