People of Color have faced an uphill battle with Covid-19 vaccine administration due to so many reason including issues related to transportation, education, outreach and setting up appointments. This problem has significantly compounded the struggles faced by People of Color.

We are in need of volunteers to help with our Covid-19 clinic and vaccination as well as help us with our fundraising efforts to provide culturally appropriate food baskets to those in need this holiday season.

The Missions Benefit Auction raises support for the church youth's summer missions trips. The youth from Rohlers Assembly of God are having a Missions Benefit Auction to raise money to support one of our young missionary families in Cureval, Columbia, to renovate a campground to be used to help children and youth, train and house missions teams, and host events. Our youth cannot go physically on a missions trip this summer due to covid-19 restrictions, but wanted to help raise money for a worthy cause.

Opportunity Details

WEConnect International will be hosting the Financing Your Growing Business Boot Camp for women business owners on June 22, 23, 29 and 30 in partnership with Moody's.

We are looking for volunteers to support this training which helps to provide education and industry expertise on creditworthiness and how to position their business for capital input and growth.

As a volunteer, you can assist with either running the logistics of the Boot Camp and/or presenting a specific training session. On-boarding and training will be provided to all volunteers and presenters and note this training will be run in Spanish.

• General Volunteer: These volunteers will support the overall delivery of the Boot Camp, working with WEConnect International to moderate breakout sessions, monitor and respond to attendee chat questions, or assist the presenters. Volunteers should be familiar with Zoom, able to answer general questions about creditworthiness in support of subject matter experts and have experience in virtual facilitation/moderation and a basic knowledge of Mexico and/or Cost Rica.

• Presenter: These volunteers will act as subject matter experts and deliver a training session on a specific topic – credit, financial statements, goal planning, sources of financing, capital planning, how to pitch or enterprise valuation. The presenter will be provided a pre-designed curriculum in PowerPoint and have the opportunity to suggest enhancements if needed. These volunteers should have experience presenting these topics to adult learners and an understanding of how these topics are or can be applied in Mexico and/or Costa Rica.

OVERVIEW

The SEED Conservation Research Programme (SCRP) is based in the beautiful coastal area of Sainte Luce, surrounded by extremely rare and threatened fragments of littoral forest. Join us and you will carry out important, hands-on, conservation fieldwork with species including lemurs, bats, chameleons and amphibians, help with community initiatives, and environmental education. You'll also have the chance to explore the local area, meet some amazing people and enjoy some spectacular sunsets.

The southern littoral forest in Sainte Luce is one of only three significant areas of this forest type remaining in Madagascar, having been reduced by over 90%. As the forest has both high biodiversity and a heavily reliant local population, we work to combine scientific research with community conservation to build knowledge and capacity in the area.

Currently, our research focuses on biodiversity, collecting data about species present, their distribution, density, behaviour and habitats. Study species include lemurs, geckos, chameleons, bats and many more. The data is used to better manage the forests, support the local community and protect the species concerned. Volunteers also help to run regular environmental education classes for local children.

WHY ARE VOLUNTEERS NEEDED?

Conservation Volunteers provide vital support to the long-term research staff with collecting research data on the coastal forest ecosystem. The more people that help search along a transect, the more likely we are to record everything in the area.
Data collected on these projects is used to inform and educate governments, businesses and communities responsible for the conservation of these areas and species. Some of our projects include:
• Long term monitoring of lemurs, amphibians and reptiles—Creating long term datasets that provide information on population densities, ecological preference of species and changes over time.
• Project Ala—Increase and improve viable habitat for two endangered species of lemur and a newly discovered mouse lemur in the Sainte Luce littoral forest, through corridor reforestation coupled with strengthened local and regional capacity to support the conservation of lemurs and their natural habitats.
• Project Rufus—Conducting research and education to enhance the long-term survival of Madagascar’s flying fox bats.

DATE/TIME NOTES
Our Conservation Research Programme is designed as a 10-week programme starting at the beginning of January, April, July and October each year. You can join from a minimum of 2 weeks, up to a maximum of 10 weeks. To participate in the full range of activities you will want to stay for the full 10 weeks!

Having grown up in a time where cellphones were non-existent and when snail mail was one of the most common methods of communication, seniors across Canada would greatly benefit from receiving a handwritten card. Receiving an uplifting card has the ability to create a connection with the community, which many seniors are lacking due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Feelings of social isolation and loneliness among our seniors have been serious consequences of the ongoing pandemic, as restrictions reduce the ability to see loved ones face-to-face. By receiving handwritten cards, our goal is to spread some sunshine to as many seniors as possible throughout Canada, and we need your help to do so!

Having dedicated help in planning and running events & in reaching out to new potential donors would really expand our resources and support. For a small team, planning events and making time for donor recruitment is a struggle. Program demands take precedents and lack of skill and experience in fundraising and event planning holds us back.

In-Touch is one of the many unique programs that LOSS offers. This program offers direct care and support to suicide survivors. Some of the volunteer opportunities within this program are assembling resource folders, assisting in follow up calls, writing and addressing cards, assembling care baskets, preparing newsletters, etc.

We are looking for volunteers who are passionate about making the world a kinder place, and who believe it's important to stand as a source of healing and support for suicide loss survivors.
