Opportunity Details
The annual Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Seminar (HOBY) of Tennessee is 2.5 days of activities, discussions, speakers, and panels for 100 high school sophomores from around the state. They’ll learn about how to grow their personal, group, and service leadership, and then be charged to put that knowledge into action through a challenge of 100 service hours in their local community over the next year.There are plenty of ways to get involved in the seminar! A group of 8-10 students is guided by a facilitator (21 years or older) and junior facilitator (18-21 year-old volunteer) through activities and small group discussions. Looking for more of a backstage role? We’ve got plenty of operation-based roles such as helping with check-in, the college fair, greeting speakers, setting up activities, and more.
Volunteers will arrive the evening of June 5th, with students arriving the morning of June 6th. By volunteering, we will house and feed you through the seminar. All volunteers must stay on-site for the entire seminar until June 8th at around 3:30 PM.

Individuals from all cultures, ethnicities, races, backgrounds and walks of life are encouraged to apply. Preferred applicants reside in GLM’s current service area: the Portland, Oregon and Clark County, Washington metro area. Virtual applicants will also be considered.
About Great Life Mentoring
Great Life Mentoring is a 501(c)(3) public charity and an evidence-based mental health intervention that utilizes community volunteers to significantly improve the mental health conditions of children living in poverty. It’s unlike any other mentoring program, and it’s proven to work.
For the past 25 years, GLM has worked in partnership with mental health organizations, and its careful approach has positively impacted over 1,000 kids-providing over 100,000 hours of consistency, positive interactions and quality time that changes lives.
The organization is engaged in the highest-level scientific research (a randomized controlled trial), with the long-term goal being to scale this proven intervention and provide GLM’s standard of care, stability and emotional competence to children in communities throughout the US and Canada.

Board members serve as ambassadors, provide leadership, guidance and financial sustainability. Board members need not have all of the following skills, but within the team they will be represented: Accounting, Fundraising, Hospitality, Human Resources, Legal Compliance, Technology, Marketing, Social Media, Strategic Planning. There is currently a gap in the areas of legal and fundraising, though all applicants will be considered.

Shoots vary from approximately 1 to 3 hours, depending on the Dream. We try to notify volunteers one week in advance of the shoot, but due to the nature of our work, requests may be made on shorter notice.
As a special thanks for your generosity, all Dream photographers will receive a Dream Photography Network website badge upon completion of their first Dream.

We’re looking for passionate video producers to support us with the post-production of our videos.There are two ways you can collaborate with us:
1️⃣ On-site: Join us as we help make dreams come true and then edit the video (Long version: approx. 3–5 min | Short version: approx. 30 sec).
2️⃣ Remote: We send you the footage, and you take care of the editing.
Frequency: Around 1 video per month
Ideally, you bring:
- Experience in video editing
- A strong sense for emotions and storytelling
- Joy in meaningful, voluntary work
