Position Overview:

The Ohana Homefront Foundation Ambassador is a role that requires representation of the Ohana Homefront Foundation in a professional and friendly manner. The aim of the OHF Ambassador is to promote awareness of the Ohana Homefront Foundation mission, services and to help us to raise vital funds to support our work. Ambassadors help to raise awareness of OHF by attending events to talk about our work and encourage others to get involved by volunteering, or in fundraising activity, giving donations, or maybe considering corporate sponsorship. This is a really important role as it helps OHF to reach new people, inspire new fundraising activity, and thank our supporters for the work they are doing.

The role can take many forms depending on your time, connections and confidence. Some Ambassadors may prefer to make meetings on a one-to-one basis whereas others may prefer to host a talk in front of 100 people. Some Ambassadors may have social contacts that may lead to ‘Charity of the Year’ status nominations, or may have business or professional contacts leading to company sponsorships or donations. Others may wish to offer time to appear at community or charity events as an OHF spokesperson.

Role Description
Attending invited events to give presentations/talk about the work of Ohana Homefront Foundation, our mission and the difference we are making, to inspire people to support us through fundraising, or to thank supporters for the fundraising they have completed.
Representing OHF in a professional manner.
Making conversation with members of the public as appropriate and answering questions about OHF.
Promoting planned fundraising initiatives and activities.
Support social media and website posting, through provision of photographs, stories, notice of upcoming events/talks.

The benefits to you:
Experience working with a respected and much needed small charity supporting the entire military community’s mental health
A sense of satisfaction and pride for helping to make a valuable difference
Representing a cause that is close to your heart
Challenging stigma related to mental health and suicide within our military community
Identification as an ambassador on the OHF Website and other appropriate promotional or marketing materials for specific events

Skills, experience and qualities
Personable, enthusiastic and approachable
Social or business contacts, locally or in a wider arena
Confident in public speaking
Experience of attending fundraising events, or willingness to shadow & learn
Genuine interest in promoting public awareness of military community mental health

Time commitment
This is a flexible role to suit your availability, and as such there is no minimum time commitment. OHF Ambassadors will be contacted as appropriate and offered the opportunity to attend events to which we are invited, or may choose to run events themselves to fundraise for the Ohana Homefront Foundation.

The individual will report directly to the Outreach Director and work collaboratively with other departments to ensure the organization's overall mission is fulfilled.

Our team is looking to add great people of integrity and passion to our Board of Directors who have hearts of service, are deeply connected to the mission of Legacy of Excellence Foundation (LEF), and wish to utilize their time, energy, and resources to help advance LEF's mission. Please find additional details regarding level of commitment, below:

I. Time Commitment (in meetings):

Our regular meetings happen once a month (currently every fourth Saturday) for 75 minutes via Zoom. All LEF Board Directors are expected to attend each of these meetings. However, should an extenuating circumstance arise, preventing someone from attending a given meeting, we just ask that he/she give notice to the team as far in advance as possible and then be sure to review the minutes and notes, post-meeting.

II. Time Commitment (out of meetings):

All LEF Board Directors are expected to devote at least one hour per week to LEF, outside of regular meetings. This can entail an array of things, such as support with fundraising, board cultivating, marketing, creating/revising policy, etc. This particular time expectation may be slightly more, depending on the office you hold and/or committee(s) you are part of (we currently do not have any committees yet). For example, outside of typical modes of support, the Board Chair is expected to do a little more than everyone else (e.g., meet with the Founder regularly to strategize).

III. Financial Commitment:

While constituting only a small fraction of LEF’s general endowment, regular financial contributions from each Board Director are important. This practice ensures that each Board Director has “skin in the game” and that the organization has a predictable repository that it can rely on, apart from revenue generated from services offered at the project level (e.g., school fees). Seeing that the Board is active in procuring financial resources for LEF also helps to motivate external supporters (and potential grant/funding agencies who may wish to undertake due diligence) to give on behalf of LEF and its supported projects. As such, either by a.) solely contributing via personal donations, b.) solely contributing via external fundraising activities, or c.) contributing via a hybrid/combination of personal donations and external fundraising activities, each LEF Board Director is expected to raise financial contributions for LEF (and its projects) in the minimum total amount of $6,000 per year.

Each component above is fleshed out even more in our Charter/Bylaws and Processes & Procedures Manual in terms of rationale, specificity, etc.
