What is The Longest Day?
The Longest Day (or TLD) is the do-it-yourself fundraising and awareness event of the Alzheimer's Association. People across the globe pick any activity, any date, and a location to invite friends, family and communities to participate and donate. On the longest day of the year--the summer solstice--we collectively honor and remember all those affected and celebrate the impact of our year round fundraising for the fight to #ENDALZ. In the MA/NH Chapter, our fundraisers host their own events such as a yoga fundraiser, hiking the white mountains, board game nights with family, a neighborhood cookout, walking a marathon, you name it! Learn more at alz.org/thelongestday

We are looking for volunteers to join our committee who can help with one or more of the options below:

At home:
o Help write thank you notes and other mailings throughout the TLD season
o Researching contacts and creating a list for potential new TLD teams/ events (such as boxing clubs, pickleball facilities, companies, etc.)
o Reaching out to past participants by email and/or phone to encourage them to re-register for the new season, and follow up with them in a timely manner

In the community:
o Represent The Longest Day at farmer’s markets, expos, community events, other similar tabling opportunities
o Use contacts in your community to help us strategize and expand
o Help put up flyers in your town and community about The Longest Day, and chat with local businesses on how they can get involved

Through Social Media/ Instagram:
o Help create graphics, reels, and other materials to share on our TLD Instagram
o Interact and engage with other accounts, followers, comments, etc. often
o Use Instagram as a recruitment tool to encourage new registrations
o Work with the event manager on a social media plan

Additionally, all volunteers commit to:
• Attending bi-monthly Zoom meetings (in the evenings) year round
• Meeting 1 on 1 with the event manager as needed (on Zoom)
• Bring new ideas to the table on ways we can strategize and grow TLD
• Be comfortable using Google Drive
• Must live in Massachusetts or New Hampshire
• Host your own TLD event and fundraise

Benefits of Volunteering for your Career Path:
• Reinforces skills you’re already learning in your current role, and develops new skills
• Builds leadership skills and opportunities in an additional venue
• Connects you with like-minded socially conscious individuals working towards a greater goal
• Provides valuable networking prospects
• Unites people from differing industries and backgrounds, creating a unique network outside your current role
• Makes you a more qualified and desirable candidate for your next job

Where can I learn more?

Check out our website at alz.org/thelongestday and respond to this volunteer match post if you’d like to get involved. From there, the event manager will schedule time 1 on 1 to chat more about The Longest Day and your interest in joining the volunteer committee. Thank you so much in advance for your interest in joining this unique event and the fight to end Alzheimer’s and all other dementia!

Project Renewal’s Next Step Employment Program prepares clients for careers in the social services field (e.g., at homeless shelters and supportive housing facilities) through classroom training, professional internships, and opportunities to earn industry-recognized credentials.

Colgate volunteers can support recent program graduates by holding mock interviews in preparation for upcoming job interviews. This is a critical opportunity for graduates to practice what they just learned in their classroom training. Project Renewal will provide recommended questions and sample job descriptions. Each volunteer will be assigned to 1-3 clients to work with based upon participation.
