Hope Boxes contain all components required to assemble 24 Happy Hope Bags, and a prepaid UPS label will be included to ship completed boxes directly to the United Way’s Distribution Center. Opportunity Details

Blessing Baskets orchestrates the community Christmas program in Western Canadian County. Over 70% of the students in the public schools in Western Canadian county are on free or reduced lunch, those families sometimes do not have enough food during the time when their children are out of school for two weeks during Christmas and do not have funds to buy Christmas gifts and other essential items. This project is important to help those families during Christmas time with those needs. We plan to help approximately 850 families need, including over 900 children this Christmas. Volunteers help distribute toys, groceries, and other essential items to families in need for Christmas. Food for a traditional ham Christmas dinner is given, as well as groceries and other items to help families during Christmas time when the children are out of school for the holiday break. Each child receives a toy(s) specific to their age. Senior citizens in need are given a gift as well. Volunteers help sort the toys by age groups, help box up groceries and other gift items as well as help load them in grocery carts to take out to the parking lot to families as they pick up their Christmas items. Volunteers find volunteering at Blessing Baskets during the Christmas time very rewarding. The families show so much gratitude and the Christmas spirit is amazing.

Our Adopt a Family Holiday project provides clothing, toys, and food to over 450 families in need during the holiday season.  

Volunteer Activities:  As warehouse volunteer elves, you can assist with the intake of gifts, gift wrapping, organizing the warehouse, and distributing gifts to agencies. These volunteers are the muscle behind the Adopt a Family program and have a lot of fun playing the role of "elves" for these families in need.

Opportunity Details

YWCA Toronto Employment Centre is seeking volunteers to place flyers throughout the community to help create a greater awareness of the centre’s programs and services.

If possible, volunteers should sign up in groups of 2 or 3. Ideally, each group will have access to a vehicle.

Program Details: YWCA Toronto's Employment Centre offers free services that help women, men and youth prepare for employment. The centre offers comprehensive employment and job search services such as: assessment of skills, interests and experience; job search strategies, including resume preparation; links to job placements and internships; workshop and training; free child-minding; and help in maintaining employment.

The goal is the spread awareness about anti-bullying and all the affects it has on at risk youth during October, Bullying Prevention Month. While bullying has probably always been a problem among teenagers, the widespread use of the Internet, social media sites, texting, and other electronic forms of communication by teens has led to cyber-bullying (bullying that occurs in an electronic format), which is likely the most damaging form of bullying to date. The purpose of the program is to identify youths who are dealing with these issues and offer a positive support system to avoid the pitfalls that can derail their lives. It is important due to the current statistic on bullying and suicide in the state of Mississippi. We will need volunteers to help set up table and chairs, pass out curriculum and serve refreshments.
