Opportunity Details

This year over 22,000 women will be diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Ovarian cancer has no symptoms in the early stages and there is no early detection test. Late stage symptoms are often non-specific, such as loss of appetite and bloating, which means most women are not diagnosed until cancer has significantly progressed. Only about 20% of ovarian cancers are found at an early stage. When ovarian cancer is found early, about 94% of patients live longer than 5 years after diagnosis. Research to improve the treatment and diagnosis of ovarian cancer is critical. Being able to find ovarian cancer early could save lives. Over the years, the Stiletto Sprint has raised over $600,000 in support of research related to treatment and early diagnosis of ovarian cancer as well as patient education and community awareness programs.

The Stiletto Sprint is a 70-yard dash in which participants, both women and men, compete in high heels. Those not able to run in heels can choose to walk, cheer from the sidelines, or participate in other event activities including a raffle, massage station, a survivorship boutique, and more. This year’s Stiletto Sprint will be held on Saturday, September 22, 2018 at SouthPark Mall in Charlotte and will attract an estimated 500 community members. It is a very uplifting day for patients, survivors, families and our community.

Volunteers are needed to help with registration, participant check-in, support vendors in the survivor boutique, serve breakfast in the hospitality tent, assist with parking, directing participants where to go, help clean up and break down and other duties as needed.
