Volunteers needed to help with homework, reading out loud with students, helping with math and extra math, ages 8-18.1. Floating - Helping with any and all subjects, moving around each room, a good way to establish and build tutor-relationships with students
a. Asking what students are working on, rather than asking if they need help
b. Checking Google Classroom assignments
c. Revising and completing Late Work
2. Math Tutoring - 1 on 1, 30 min. session with a middle school student who needs help with homework, studying, or reviewing
3. Reading - 1 on 1 reading session with an elementary school student for 30-45 minutes to work on fluency and comprehension
Volunteers usually start with 1 day a week, from 3:30-5:30 and are needed on a weekly basis from September – June, between Monday and Thursday. We follow the Danbury Public School calendar except when we have field trips planned on national holidays. Our students do not come in on snow days. We can work with your schedule and be as flexible as needed, but it would be ideal to choose the same day each week to volunteer.
Our Main Goal: DGA’s outreach is fueled by the help of volunteers. We want to make volunteers feel valued and productive. If a volunteer is sitting around, we are not making the most of the resource we have available. Finding and inventing tasks for volunteers creates a fulfilling experience for them, which increases overall retention.

CareerSpring is a non-profit organization dedicated to unlocking the employment potential of first-generation and/or low-income (FGLI) college students by providing career information, social capital, and job placement services via an online Career Platform. To fulfill our mission, we partner with employers, community organizations, and schools that aspire to help FGLI students and graduates realize their greatest career potential. By volunteering with CareerSpring, you’ll transform lives with every connection or advising session you complete.Main tasks:
Your career experience and professional path can be a source of guidance and inspiration for FGLI students. As a volunteer Advisor on CareerSpring's Platform, you will be able to network with and provide advice for FGLI students/graduates who are just starting their careers.
After a short registration process, the Platform allows volunteers to set their availability so that they can connect as little or as much as they want. When you become an Advisor, students (Advisees) can reach out to you for live advisory video conferences via the Platform’s online meeting software.
Time zone:
Our Advisees are spread nationally, so consultations are shown with adjusted timezones for each user.
Duration and frequency:
- Duration of session: Depending on the kind of Advice topic selected, conversations can be anywhere from 30 min to 1hr.
- Frequency: You set your frequency in your profile settings. As an Advisor, you get to choose how many meetings you would like to have every month.
- Availability: You can go Out Of Office whenever you like and can set the Days and Times you wish for your "CareerSpring Office Hours," however, just because you choose these times, it does not mean you will always have a meeting. Meetings are scheduled based on student interest.
Agenda:
As an Advisor, you get to choose the topics you feel confident to offer advice about. Some topics include:
- General Career Conversation
- Being Successful at Work
- Work-life Balance
- Transitioning from School to Work
- Changing Careers
- Searching for a job
- Applying for jobs in specific industries
- And More ...
To get a better understanding of how the platform works, you can sign up for a training session with a member of the CareerSpring Staff. For any questions, please contact Admin@careerspring.org

At JA Finance Park presented by the USAA Foundation, each student becomes “an adult for the day” in an electronic simulation. The students are assigned a life scenario so they can experience firsthand the real-life challenges of making personal budgeting decisions. After calculating their net monthly income and savings goals, students visit kiosks that represent different budget categories such housing, health insurance, groceries, and utilities. Anyone with real world monthly budgeting experience can become a volunteer. JA Finance Park Volunteers play a key role by helping the students understand the concepts of personal financial planning and career exploration. Volunteers provide guidance and assistance while monitoring and verifying students’ work.New Feature! Submit pictures to this volunteer event through the USAA Serves Mobile App - Should you choose to upload pictures from your volunteer experience, you are consenting to the use of your pictures and image by USAA as we see fit, internally or externally. Further, if there are non-employees in the picture(s), you warrant that you are able to grant the same permissions to use on their behalf. For this event, do not take pictures of the students.
Don't have your Volunteer shirt or need a new one? Instructions to order your shirt are under Quick Links above.
Guess what!?! Your volunteer hours for this event will be tracked automatically within 3 days of the event.
IMPORTANT NOTE FROM USAA CORPORATE RESPONSIBILITY: USAA Serves system does not send cancellation notices to the junior achievement coordinator if you remove yourself from the event. Students are scheduled for this field trip based on the number of volunteers signed up to participate. It is extremely important that if you sign up, you show up. If for some reason after signing up, you are unable to attend, you must do the following:
1. Notify martin Longoria at mlongoria@jast.org
2. Cancel your participation in USAA Serves so another USAAvolunteer can take your spot.
3. If your cancellation is within 7 days, you must call ja directly to notify at 210-490-2007 ext105 in addition to the steps outlined above.
Junior Achievement will need to work quickly to fill your spot so the students are taken care of. Our ultimate goal is to represent USAA’s brand well, be good corporate citizens and partners to our nonprofit community members, and most importantly be there for these students, many of whom are in economically disadvantaged areas. When we do not show, this makes the event very challenging for junior achievement, for the remaining volunteers, and for the students. Be inspired by the next generation of women, genderqueer, and non-binarytechnologists! The National Center for Women & IT (NCWIT) needs your help to review applications for our Award for Aspirations in Computing. This award gives students a boost by letting awardees know that they are recognized for their talent as well as their aspirations to be women in tech.
Volunteering is virtual and can be done at your own time and pace. Estimated time is 2-3 hours to meet the minimum commitment.
Why Should I Volunteer?
Play a key role in recognizing and encouraging the next generation of technologists and their mentors!
Reviewing is not only rewarding, but also convenient. Volunteer application reviewers complete application reviews at their own pace, and spend an average of three hours reviewing. Review whenever you have a free moment—at lunch, after work, anytime.
Reviewing contributes towards required corporate volunteer hours. (Check with your company to see if being a volunteer application reviewer qualifies as required corporate volunteer hours.)
Aspirations in Computing will provide a certificate of volunteerism for each reviewer who completes 20 or more reviews. The certificate will state the number of reviews completed and can be used to document service efforts with one’s employer.
