We are looking for dedicated emerging leaders with a passion for education to join our Associate Board. As an Associate Board member, you will play a critical role in helping us achieve our mission. AB members are an important volunteer source, act as UPchieve ambassadors in their communities, and help us hit our fundraising goals each year.

Opportunity Details

AHC has 25 apartment buildings for low and moderate income residents in Arlington, VA. We give out bags of healthy snacks at the seven community centers where we run education programs. In June we give gift bags to the high school seniors graduating from our College & Career Readiness program. During the winter holidays, we like to give gift bags to the students in our education programs.

Assembling and decorating the gift bags is a fun project for families, groups and individuals. Please email volunteer@ahcinc.org for more information.

Volunteers are needed to find venues for the Children's Outdoor Trails in local areas to bring more young people outdoors, to introduce them to hiking, orienteering and to learn about 1989 Convention on the Right of the Child and children's rights.

This is FHN's big fundraiser for the year. We are a small marching band and we are hosting 11 other high school bands to come and compete for trophy's and bragging rights. We offer clinics to the bands to help the performers gain pointers and insight to help their performance. Thanks in advance for your assistance!

Opportunity Details

Economics for Success is an interactive program designed to encourage students to consider how they can prepare to enter the world of work. This preparation involves identifying personal interests, skills, strengths, and passions; mapping them to career clusters; recognizing possible post-secondary destinations; learning to budget; and developing strategies to achieve educational and career goals

This in-school program, targeted towards grade 9 students, is conducted as a full school morning event. Multi media is used to enhance the program and activities are designed to be fun and engaging. The volunteer's role is to facilitate these activities. All program materials and training are provided by JA. Requires a 3-4 hour time commitment for program delivery and 1-2 hours for training and prep. Please visit our website to find out about specific opportunities in your area!

A Young Change Agents Incubator for High School Students will be held during the January Holidays 2020. To be selected to attend this event student teams will pitch their ideas at a series of design thinking workshops throughout Sydney in term 4 of 2019.

Young Change Agents who are facilitating the programs are looking for volunteers to attend pitch events and be on the judging panel. Judges will need to provide constructive feedback and help select teams to attend the incubator. The commitment is for 1-2 hours plus travel time.

The dates of the events include:
25 October 2019 - Chifley Dunheved Campus High School 1.45pm - 3pm
20 November 2019 - Plumpton High School 1.45pm - 3pm
22 November 2019 - Caringbah High School 1.45pm - 3pm
26 November - John Edmundson High School S 1.45pm - 3pm
29 November - Leumeah High School 1.45pm - 3pm

You will need a valid working with children check and need 100 points of ID when you arrive to the school. (ie. Drivers Licence and passport)
