Project ECHO's High School Entrepreneurs' Business Plan Competition simulates the real-world process of entrepreneurs soliciting start-up funds from investors. More than 300 teens will participate in this annual start-up competition and executive level Judges are needed to help evaluate their team business presentations.Judges will act as venture capital investors deciding on which business they'd most likely fund. The quality of the idea, the strength of the management team, and the clarity and persuasiveness of the oral presentation are the criteria that determine each judge's decision. Each panel of judges will evaluate 7-10 business teams, which means listening to a formal 10-minute presentation, participating in a Q&A with the team, and then scoring each team accordingly on ECHO's cloud-based system.
The 2025 competition will be hosted at CSU, Dominguez Hills in Los Angeles with some teams pitching virtually on Zoom.
Requirements to be considered as a Judge: You must be able to serve in person. In addition, ECHO recruits a diversified pool of executives from various industries to serve as judges. Interested volunteers must have at least 10 years of professional work experience and have served in leadership roles accountable for managing teams of employees. Judges should be compassionate individuals who are innately interested in supporting the personal and career aspirations of young adults who are preparing to graduate from high school and are focused on discovering their career goals. Your feedback matters!

Project ECHO teens come from various academic and socio-economic backgrounds, but none of it matters when they come to compete for cash start-up funds (aka college scholarships). We hope you'll consider joining us!

BE OUR GUESTVirtual Career WorkOut introduces students to work guests from different work backgrounds, so they can find out what it’s really like to do different jobs.
You’ll join 4 other work guests for a 40-minute Question & Answer session! They’ll ask you open questions about your job, how you got it and what it’s like for you.
Guests can be anyone who has experience of work, including self-employment, even unemployment. Ideally they will have or have had the kinds of jobs to which the young people can reasonably aspire. A young person who has been working in a shop, or as a junior mechanic or trainee nurse for a year, is as important to this as a top manager, senior government employee or business owner.
Just choose a session you'd like to join from the list at www.worktree.org/events, and we'll send you a confirmation email with meeting link (usually MS Teams). On the day, just turn up, relax and be yourself. You don’t need to prepare anything, just answer the questions as honestly as you can. There are no right or wrong answers. Career WorkOut is easy, informative, fast-paced and fun. See Tips for volunteers.
What’s in it for you? A break from your day-to-day. A chance to inspire young people and learn about what they think. These sessions give guests a chance to say what they do for work and why, find out more about young people today and network with guests from other local businesses. It’ll make your day!
What’s in it for a company? It can help recruit new staff as well as develop current staff, especially helping them think newly about their current role and focus. It can also raise the company’s profile in the community.

We also boast a rainwater catchment system with the capacity to store 45,000 gallons of water. As a volunteer, you will join our local construction crew and other volunteers that participate in the construction of the school. Most of the campus is finished and operating a school of grades K-11 with 150 students and 35 local staff, while we continue construction. In Guatemala, there is a dry season (Nov-April) and a rainy season (May-Oct), and we work throughout the whole year. We accept volunteers of all skills and experience levels! Finding the "right" job is important and the "right" job varies from person to person. At OPPortunity Academy, our students had previously struggled in high school and are now on their new path to their diploma. We infuse college and career programming as students at OPPortunity Academy need to broaden their horizons and learn about different paths post-high school that they may not have considered or heard of before. This Career Activities Day is an opportunity for outsiders to impart their knowledge from their personal journeys and to assist students in their career planning and finding the "right" job for them.Available Shifts
