At JA Finance Park presented by the USAA Foundation, each student becomes “an adult for the day” in an electronic simulation. The students are assigned a life scenario so they can experience firsthand the real-life challenges of making personal budgeting decisions. After calculating their net monthly income and savings goals, students visit kiosks that represent different budget categories such housing, health insurance, groceries, and utilities. Anyone with real world monthly budgeting experience can become a volunteer. JA Finance Park Volunteers play a key role by helping the students understand the concepts of personal financial planning and career exploration. Volunteers provide guidance and assistance while monitoring and verifying students’ work.
New Feature! Submit pictures to this volunteer event through the USAA Serves Mobile App - Should you choose to upload pictures from your volunteer experience, you are consenting to the use of your pictures and image by USAA as we see fit, internally or externally. Further, if there are non-employees in the picture(s), you warrant that you are able to grant the same permissions to use on their behalf. For this event, do not take pictures of the students.

Don't have your Volunteer shirt or need a new one? Instructions to order your shirt are under Quick Links above.

Guess what!?! Your volunteer hours for this event will be tracked automatically within 3 days of the event.

IMPORTANT NOTE FROM USAA CORPORATE RESPONSIBILITY: USAA Serves system does not send cancellation notices to the junior achievement coordinator if you remove yourself from the event. Students are scheduled for this field trip based on the number of volunteers signed up to participate. It is extremely important that if you sign up, you show up. If for some reason after signing up, you are unable to attend, you must do the following:
1. Notify martin Longoria at mlongoria@jast.org
2. Cancel your participation in USAA Serves so another USAAvolunteer can take your spot.
3. If your cancellation is within 7 days, you must call ja directly to notify at 210-490-2007 ext105 in addition to the steps outlined above.
Junior Achievement will need to work quickly to fill your spot so the students are taken care of. Our ultimate goal is to represent USAA’s brand well, be good corporate citizens and partners to our nonprofit community members, and most importantly be there for these students, many of whom are in economically disadvantaged areas. When we do not show, this makes the event very challenging for junior achievement, for the remaining volunteers, and for the students. Any questions about the policy above, contact usaaserves@usaa.com

The highest level of robotics competition offered by FIRST. High-school students team up with the world’s best technology companies to build the most impressive robots you’ve ever seen. Built from scratch, these 5 foot tall, 140-pound robots compete in high-intensity robo-sports. With bragging rights at stake for schools and the companies that support them, robotics takes on a pro-sports experience. Watch the best of the best in robotics come out to play.

“The varsity sport for the mind,” FRC combines the excitement of sport with the rigors of science and technology. Under strict rules, limited resources, and time limits, teams of 25 students or more are challenged to raise funds, design a team “brand,” hone teamwork skills, and build and program robots to perform prescribed tasks against a field of competitors. It’s as close to “real-world engineering” as a student can get. Volunteer professional mentors lend their time and talents to guide each team.

On January 20, 2025, United Way NCA is offering a DIY volunteer opportunity for employees and their families. This initiative aims to raise awareness about underserved communities in the DMV and the need to provide essential school supplies. By participating, you can help alleviate the anxiety and financial strain on ALICE families, as well as support educators who often spend their own money to equip their classrooms.

Our mid-year teacher boxes are thoughtfully designed to provide educators with the essential classroom supplies necessary for effectively teaching their students.

Collect or purchase the following items to assemble mid-year teachers that United Way NCA will distribute to our community school partners. Whether you purchase the items from the store or set up a collection drive amongst your friends, colleagues, or family, every kit you contribute will impact an individual and their family, providing some essential need items that can help them build resiliency.

Kit Contents
Our mid-year school supply kits contain each of the following products and quantities. United Way NCA has created an Amazon shopping list to aid in your ordering process and are optional for you to use to order your supplies. Should you choose to use a vendor other than Amazon, please ensure the following items and quantities are in each box.

Mid-Year Teacher Box Items

Hand Sanitizer - 8 oz
Tissues
Printer Paper Ream
4 Sticky Notes
5-pack Multicolor Pens
Dry Erase Markers and Whiteboard Cleaner
Disinfecting Wipes
Paper Towels
Disinfectant and Deodorizing Spray
Clear Plastic Tote
1 Encouragement Card
Download full instructions here.

Ready to get started?
Let us know you're packing kits by responding to this opportunity! In the notes section, let us know about how many kits you plan to pack and when you plan to pack them. A team member will reach out to you soon after you respond to confirm this information and schedule your kit drop-off date. If you are packing kits with a team, only ONE person (the project's main point-of-contact) needs to register here.

Note: All kits must be dropped off no later than January 31, 2025.

Once your kits are dropped off, let us know how many hours this project took you by tracking your hours. We estimate that procuring the supplies and packing 6 kits would take around 2 hours. We can approve and sign-off on most district's service-learning hours for high school and middle school students.
