Become a mentor for children across the globe! This is an incredible way to give service online, especially since most of the world's schools are still closed due to COVId-19, and this is the only educational resource these kids will have.

It’s super easy to get to started (check out our website), and it’s fun to get connected and help mentor these children. Once you are paired with a child, your sessions only take 30 minutes a week, and our fun interactive training sessions will help you be successful.

Education opens children’s minds to a world of possibilities and gives them the tools they need to dream bigger. And you can inspire that within them through mentoring!

Testimonials from Working Professional:
This amazing experience just recently started and I am absolutely happy. Because it is not only about myself helping someone, it is about the gift I receive from the energy of the person I am teaching something. In my case, Dixon is a wonderful boy, he is curious and very intelligent, he loves Math and geography, so we speak about these themes in our sessions. I learn about Uganda with him, and I teach all what he asks to know. It's been a win-win experience. - Sara Gozozabelcorrea

When the mentor program was introduced to me, I had actively been searching for service opportunities. I was seeking prospects through multiple sources, including the company for which I had previously been working, but I hadn’t found anything fitting my needs yet. Village Book Builders was offered to me as an opportunity to help educate and serve those most in need and those willing to put forth their own efforts. I love serving through VBB because the program is able to work around my schedule and with my abilities to serve. I also love that this particular service focuses on education, something in which I believe strongly. Lastly, I love that VBB provides interaction with those we are serving; the children are vibrant and eager which makes it all the more rewarding. - Michael Muehlmann

Mentoring with VBB has been such a meaningful way for me to give back amidst my busy schedule! I have had such a great experience with my mentee and have loved watching him become a better reader, problem solver, and communicator. Seeing his growth over the past few months has been truly remarkable. Being an extra support system for him is such a joy and I am so thankful for VBB connecting the two of us! - Diandra Marizet

We have the opportunity to redesign our curriculum to meet the needs of the world today. Opportunities include the age groups of early Headstart, Headstar, Elementary, Middle school, and high school. Curriculum would need to meet the gold standards for each age group as relating to movement classes.

If you have experience writing curriculum and lesson planning as specific to these age groups and can make the focus on movement and dance, then you would be a great fit.

With deadlines for UCAS applications upcoming, especially for Oxbridge, now is a crucial time for students to start finalising their personal statements. Norlington School and Sixth Form are conducting personal statement review sessions for Y13 students applying to university. This session is aimed at refining students' personal statements and boosting their confidence in their skills and the application process in general. Volunteers do not need to have a particular line of expertise to take part in this workshop, as they will be giving top tips on personal statements and advice on points such as coherence, grammar, organisation and general content.
ELBA will host the workshop over Zoom and facilitate the session. A full volunteer brief will be provided to volunteers ahead of the virtual session.

The closure of schools that began in the spring has served to only widen the educational gap between economically disadvantaged students and others. With school closures taking place for the foreseeable future it is imperative that we give economically disadvantaged students the attention they need to not fall behind.

Pandemicprofessors.org, a 501c3 organization, was founded in April by Berkeley alumni to achieve the mission of facilitating free online tutoring to low-income communities affected by the pandemic. It is a 100% volunteer-based organization. Our philosophy not only supports academic achievements, but also emphasizes the importance of socio-emotional health in these isolating times.

We currently serve over 115 underserved students with the help of 150 dedicated volunteer staff and tutors. With the significant demand that we are seeing, we want to be able to serve more families and communities in need. We need your help!

With the huge influx of students, we are asking people to volunteer with us.

Being an online tutor:

As a tutor, you are the lifeblood of this organization and are the one delivering services. You will interact with families and help the student perform and learn!

We are especially looking for coding tutors, as we have seen the benefits and need for under-resourced students to gain skills related to the tech industry.

Requirements:
-2 or more hours per week commitment (flexibility for job requirements, midterms and finals)
-Tutoring experience is helpful but not required. We offer training and support.

Benefits of joining Pandemic Professors:
-Improve diversity & inclusion in the tech industry by fostering hard skills and a sense of belonging in students from communities who are historically under-represented in tech.
-Learn by teaching! Teaching others is a great way to improve your own skills. Teach at many levels, from introductory coding in languages like Scratch to more advanced levels (e.g.,Python, Java)
-Flexible schedule: volunteer any day of the week, any time of day, wherever you are! We have volunteers from around the globe and students on many different time zones.
-Get recognized for your volunteer work with letters of recommendation for grad school; recognition on our website or social media; references for job applications; and more!

This is not only a way to help those in need and to benefit your personal resume, but also a way to build community. We are here to support each other through this time as well and hope you join us!

We are looking for volutneers who speak another language to make a video for students about how speaking another language helps in your job/life.

You can use one or more of the following questions as a guide. Feel free to respond in English or another language!

• When/why/how did you learn a foreign language? Was it challenging?
• Do you use a foreign language in your job and/or in your travels?
• What benefits or opportunities exist for bilingual individuals in your field?
• What are the educational requirements needed to pursue a career in your field?
• What do you enjoy most about your job?
• How has being bilingual affected your life?
• What do you like most about speaking another language?
• Have you ever studied or traveled abroad? Were you able to use or develop your language skills?
• Would you encourage high school students to learn another language? Why?

We just ask that you complete the video by Oct 21st to give us time to get everything ready for the students. This year we are going to be hosting virtually during the month of November for both high school and middle school students. So no “live event” will take place so the creating and submitting of the video is the volunteer activity for this event.

And if you know anyone else that speaks another language for their job, feel free to share – we would love to catalog a diverse catalog of options for studentsJ
