The Southwest Michigan Mini Maker Faire is returning for its fifth year! Maker Faire is an award-winning, family-friendly event celebrating technology, education, science, arts, crafts, engineering, food, sustainability and making of all kinds. Makers create, invent, build and inspire. They fuel the entrepreneurial spirit. These events are held worldwide and we are pleased to once again host a Faire in our corner of the world. Last year over 2000 people attended this FREE event! We brought back favorites and added new events including the an hourly “spectacle” recreating the Whirlpool Compass Fountain, Lowe’s build kit stations and a larger drone zone. Everything is made possible through sponsors like you!The fifth annual Southwest Michigan Mini Maker Faire will be held on Saturday, June 1, 2019 from 10 am to 4 pm at Whirlpool Centennial Park (just below the bluff) in St. Joseph, Michigan. Help us continue to promote the art of making in Michigan’s Great Southwest as Cornerstone Alliance partners with Berrien County Regional Education Services (RESA) and Kinexus. Cornerstone Alliance believes in innovation and promoting the entrepreneurial spirit in our community. We work with local makers to help them launch and grow their small businesses. What better place than a Maker Faire to encourage, support and mentor the next generation of inventors?
Don’t miss out on this free event! You and your family can get a first-hand glimpse into the inventive minds of our local originators, architects, makers! Marvel at what their imaginations can inspire. Appreciate their ability to bring an idea to life. These makers are visionaries who can construct things that can change the world.

This is a community festival sponsored by the Voyager Academy PTO (Parent Teacher Organization). This festival is open to the entire school and Durham Communities. Funds raised go to support the library, field trip scholarships and supplies for needy children, and a donation to a local Durham charity. We also allow funds for small teacher grants for our teachers to be able to provide additional resources that are not covered by the school. This event is important because we are not just wanting Voyager to grow as a school community, we are looking to be an asset to Durahm, by providing not only funds, but family friendly opportunities that are low cost.

We are partnering with the Metropolitan Library System and other local businesses to achieve this effort. It is my hope that you will support this effort to stamp out illiteracy, keep our K-12 school kids actively reading for the summer and to reduce the need for remedial instruction during the fall school term due to summer slide, which most impacts youth in lower income families. Keeping kids learning and engaged over the summer is critical to promoting more equitable educational outcomes. We are planning a day of fun and education for about 150 participants on June 8, 2019, from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm, at the St. Luke Baptist Church Life Center in Spencer, OK. We are planning to have the mobile library, reading activities, books, games, arts and crafts, rides, food, entertainment and much more.Available Shifts

A food packaging event is a cooperative effort between Impact with Hope Manna, Meals That Matter and a sponsor which produces dried none perishable meals to be distributed to starving people locally as well as internationally. This is accomplished by using volunteers and our students to convert bulk foods into packages of six meals each. We pack them into boxes suitable for shipping anywhere in the world. We are planning to have our 6th grade students participate in a service learning project. We are working with Kids Against Hunger to package meals for those who are hungry in the U.S. and around the world. The meals cost $0.30 each and our goal is to package at least 20,000 meals. We have raised over 6,000 dollars to achieve this goal. We would like volunteers to help our 6th grades package these meals.
This event takes place May 31st from about 9 to noon. To pack about 20,000 meals it will take about 1 hour of work and 10 stations.
