Opportunity Details

Volunteer with us to help students craft college essays or prepare scholarships applications, tutor one-on-one after school or help our staff with events and communications. Breakthrough offers a variety of opportunities throughout the year to get involved. Based on the different opportunities, all volunteers will be given initial trainings and tips to help guide them through the volunteer process and experience. Please note, Breakthrough volunteer opportunities take place at a variety of locations in addition to the Breakthrough office. Therefore, reliable transportation is required.

At Capital One/ Junior Achievement Finance Park each student becomes “an adult for the day” in an electronic simulation. The students are assigned a life scenario so they can experience firsthand the real-life challenges of making personal budgeting decisions. After calculating their net monthly income and savings goals, students visit kiosks that represent different budget categories such housing, health insurance, groceries, and utilities. Anyone with real world monthly budgeting experience can become a volunteer. JA Finance Park Volunteers play a key role by helping the students understand the concepts of personal financial planning and career exploration. Volunteers provide guidance and assistance while monitoring and verifying students’ work.

Opportunity Details

The “Hankey Hop” is a 50s themed family event that will include food, games and entertainment with over 500 people expected in attendance. We will also be having our scholastic book fair at the same time. We are looking for volunteers to support this event by manning concession booths, supervising kids on inflatables, helping sell and distribute tickets, provide extra eyes and support at the book fair and help with set up and break down. Proceeds from the Hankey Hop will go to support the many PTSA sponsored activities such as primary music, art masters, and field trips. Proceeds from the book fair will go to support scholastic materials in the classroom and supplement our library with new books. We will provide all volunteers with food and appreciate any help you can provide!
