Gasparilla Music Festival (GMF) is coming back to Tampa February 16-18, 2024!

In exchange of a 4 hour shift, volunteers receive a FREE GA ticket to the festival the day you volunteer & a FREE volunteer t-shirt. About GMF:
The 2024 Festival takes place at Julian B. Lane Riverfront Park on February 16, 17, and 18. Featuring musical acts from a wide variety of genres on five stages & cuisine from the region's top restaurants. As part of its mission to support and promote music and education, the organization is involved throughout the year in several initiatives including providing scholarships & instruments to music students.

Position: RISE After-School Tutor
Program Area: Refugee & Immigrant Student Empowerment (RISE)
Location: In person at David Douglas High School (1001 SE 135th Ave, Portland, OR, 97233)
Schedule: Monday-Thursday, 2:30-5pm
Program Description: The Refugee and Immigrant Student Empowerment (RISE) program is an educational enrichment program for recently arrived refugee and immigrant students in grades 9-12. RISE is delivered as a drop-in program that provides tutoring services to an average of 10-25 students a day. RISE aims to develop the academic skills and confidence to support the success of these students in American educational systems through tutoring, conversational activities, art-based activities, field trips and family nights.
Position Summary: RISE volunteers act as tutors, mentors and group facilitators. They provide academic support and assistance, facilitate activities and games (when needed) and help students practice English and build community. Volunteers can also participate in family engagement events and field trips.
Qualifications: Strong educational foundation in one or more of the following subjects: Math, English (Literature & Composition), Sciences, Foreign Language. Ideal volunteers have experience in teaching, tutoring, or group facilitation and/or speak Somali, Karen, Burmese, Nepali, Arabic, Spanish, Russian, Ukranian, or Vietnamese. RISE places a large emphasis on community building and as a result, we are looking for volunteers who are compassionate, hardworking, possess a good sense of humor and can adapt to various situations and learning needs.
Time Commitment: 1 day/week minimum, for 2nd Semester of 2023-24 Academic Year (January-June 2024)

• Must be 18 or older
• Must pass background check

Position: After-School Volunteer at PPS Middle and High Schools
Program Area: Race Equity and Social Justice (RESJ) Middle School Mentoring (MSM) and Wrap-around Services (WAS)
Location: In-person after-school program at George, Roseway Heights, Harrison Park, and Lane Middle Schools and Franklin, Roosevelt, and McDaniel High Schools.
Schedule: After-school program groups meet once or twice per week, Monday through Thursday, from approximately 3:30PM to 5:30PM
Program Description: RESJ program works with immigrant and refugee K-12 students at Portland Public School District. We serve three multi-dynamic communities: African-Immigrant, Pacific Islander, and Slavic by providing culturally specific after-school programming in four middle schools: George, Roseway Heights, Harrison Park, and Lane and three high schools: Franklin, Roosevelt, and McDaniel.
Position Summary: Our after-school groups provide culturally specific academic support and tutoring to immigrant and refugee students. Volunteers support our culturally specific after-school programs by assisting our bilingual bicultural Academic Advocates in the classroom and on occasional field trips. Volunteers help students with homework, math, science, and literacy lessons, as well as with group games and activities.
Qualifications: No foreign language experience is required, but those with a strong sense of compassion and a good sense of humor are encouraged to apply. In addition, some advanced English writing, math, and science skills are preferable for tutoring at the high school level.
Time Commitment: Volunteers will work from January to June (winter and spring terms).

Business volunteers from a cross-section of organisations are required to help facilitate mock interviews sessions and share their expertise with Year 12 students.
Practice interviews give students the chance to gain confidence and put their new skills into practice with business professionals in a supportive and familiar environment. Students have said in previous mock interviews that they become more confident after the event and have a clearer picture of their career choices.

Business volunteers are required to help facilitate mock interviews sessions and share their expertise with Year 11 students.
Practice interviews give students the chance to gain confidence and put their new skills into practice with business professionals in a supportive and familiar environment. Each interview will last about 15 minutes so you will have the opportunity to interview several students. Students in the past have said how these mock interviews really help build their confidence and give them a clearly picture about what they want to do next.
Once Business Volunteers have signed up to the event, they will receive full briefing notes, which includes information about parking and refreshments.

Future Founders is building the nation’s largest inclusive community of intentional young entrepreneurs and entrepreneurial-minded leaders. Our programs immerse youth in experiences that inspire and empower them to adopt an entrepreneurial mindset and create their own opportunity.

One such program is the Be Your Own Boss Virtual Internship for high school students taking place during January/February 2024. Through a mixture of all-intern sessions and team meetings, students will be led through an accelerated entrepreneurial process with the guidance of real entrepreneurs and innovative business professionals like yourself, as well as past BYOB students, and Future Founders staff.

After four weeks of ideation, creation, and innovation, student teams will present their business solution to a panel of judges for a chance to double their internship stipend and other exciting prizes.

We would greatly appreciate your help in supporting our students to develop their business ideas and perfect their pitches! A range of virtual volunteering are available, each lasting 1/1.5hr hrs long starting at 5:30 PM CT.

On February 10, 2024, Please Don't Die Black Men (PDDBM) will hold a Black History Month charity event from 10 am to 3 pm. This event acknowledges and celebrates the unique heritage and culture of African Americans, and serves to educate others about the important contributions African Americans have made to the fashion industry.

Some ways you can help crew, set up, take down crew, runners, advertising and marketing the event, photographer, backstage model dressers, collection coordinators, general admission seating hosts, sponsored student ambassador, VIP seating host, sidewalk directional attendants, parking patrol team, silent auction desk, ticket booth, and wristbands.

Join us in reaching our goal by lending a hand. Your support will play a crucial role in helping us achieve our objective and make a positive impact.

Volunteers are kindly requested to wear: black pants, a red/green/black polo shirt (choose one of the three colors), with non-slip comfortable shoes. Please wear hair up so it does not get in your face.

We will provide: each volunteer receives 1 complimentary ticket to the show, an authentic West African meal, and name tags. Breakfast snacks will also be provided.

Additional comments:
All volunteers must arrive by 8 am on the day of the event (February 10, 2024). C-Tran will be providing event shuttles to and from the fairgrounds from the Vancouver Mall Transit Center.
