Horton’s Kids empowers children growing up in DC’s most under-resourced communities so that they graduate from high school ready for success in college, career, and life. We serve 600 children in grades K-12 living in Wellington Park & Stanton Oaks – neighborhoods that have been profoundly impacted by decades of disinvestment and barriers to opportunity.

Tutors assist the Youth Programs Team with executing high quality programs that serve kids in the after-school space. HK Volunteers will tutor participants, assist teachers as they deliver instruction, and provide general program support. You will also act as a consistent adult role model in the students’ lives who they can look up to and lean on for guidance.

If you are passionate about empowering youth and can commit to volunteering once a week, this is a great opportunity for you!

Accepted volunteers are expected to complete background checks and trainings before programs begin. We ask volunteers to make a yearlong commitment from mid-September to late May. If you are interested, read the full volunteer requirements and apply on our website: https://www.hortonskids.org/get-involved/academic-vols/

If you have any questions or concerns, please to reach out to Kiana Lee, Volunteer Coordinator, via email at volunteer@hortonskids.org

About Grains of Hope
Location:3 CLOVERLEAF LN, FRANKLIN, MA 02038, US
Mission Statement
The modern field of food systems and agriculture is being revolutionized by new technological advances. However, our current food systems are inadequate to feed and nourish the ever-increasing population and do not provide healthy, affordable food for all. We would like to explore the food that we consume, such as where the food comes from and the challenges throughout the supply chain from farm to table. We aim to tackle problems with the current food systems, which includes food insecurity, food waste, malnutrition, unhealthy diets, food safety, efficiency of distribution channels, and long-term sustainability of food systems. Our mission is to raise awareness in our school and local communities about food related challenges, to promote food waste reduction, alleviate hunger, promote healthy diets, well-balanced nutrition, and food safety, and explore techniques to improve food system efficiency and sustainability.

Description
Founded by high school students from various states across the US, we are a vibrant and welcoming community that campaigns to solve food systems related challenges. As a diverse group with members coming from many backgrounds, we welcome members with varying interests to contribute to this cause, as we take both humanities and STEM approaches to further our mission.

We have expanded our organization branches to 5 states in the US, with each branch led by a local team carrying out a unique approach that best addresses food system challenges in its local community.
