Refugee Camp in My Neighbourhood provides a powerful immersive learning experience for participants to experience the journey of a refugee, led by guides with ‘lived experience’ from a range of refugee and asylum seeker backgrounds. The project also provides training and employment opportunities, building confidence and providing pathways for longer term employment for people from refugee backgrounds. The tours are confronting, powerful and life-changing - watch this video to find out more.Our current website (www.refugeecampauburn.com.au), however, doesn't have the same impact as our tours and needs an urgent refresh/revamp (just take a look)!
Do you have ideas to improve the site? It could be as simple as a new WordPress template that we can manage ourselves … it just needs to look better!
Other improvements could include incorporating our online EOI process for schools or managing bookings for tours and booking confirmation information etc, but these are longer terms goals. For now we need an urgent and quick refresh (our promo has already started!).
The kind person will be very competent at designing a web page. They will be able to be creative in the design probably using a simple CMS such as wordpress or something easy for us to use when making changes in the future.
If you have ideas and skills in this area, we would love to discuss further.

Participate in an interactive webinar about how you can contribute to community research on tree health.What you’ll do
A variety of species have made a home for themselves in the trees of Toronto. These city trees provide shelter and shade, capture carbon, slow floods, and more.
This nonprofit invites companies and their employees to learn about the urban forest by participating in citizen science through virtual tools such as iNaturalist, TreeBee, and Caterpillars Count.
For this experience, you will gather with your team for a webinar that will teach you how to collect and share simple data from local trees. This information will be placed in a database used to assess tree health in the Toronto area. Citizen science projects like this one augment educational research tools for those interested in learning about and helping sustain the city's trees.
The webinar will proceed as follows:
-> Welcome and Introduction to Organization (5-10 minutes)
-> Organization’s Mission and Program Overview (15-20 minutes)
-> Ice Breaker and Introduction to Participant Activity (15-20 minutes)
-> Closing Remarks and Questions (5-10 minutes)
What else you should know
Volunteers can download the following apps in advance. They are available for both iOS and Android devices:
-> iNaturalist
-> Seek

The Fedora Open is the major fundraiser for The Michael “Mickey” Soroka Charitable Foundation. It is held in the summer in advance of the major project requests that occur in the fall generated by the teachers and staff of the K-12 Campbell City Schools. Normally, we hold two fundraisers each year. The two annual fundraisers generate funds that provide educational assistance and contribute to academic programs which inspire and guide students of Campbell City Schools. However, due to the pandemic, the 2021 March Breakfast fundraiser was cancelled just as both fundraisers were cancelled in 2020. The Soroka Foundation does not have any paid staff, so all net fundraising is used for the education of studentsAvailable Shifts
